ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Headquarters (HQ), Regional Bureaux (RBs) and Country Offices (COs), and report to a Communications Officer.
Job holders at this level demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen problems on a daily basis.

JOB PURPOSE

The Communications Associate (video editor) will serve as the primary focal point for all video content produced by the Communications Unit. At this level, work is carried out under minimal supervision. Job holders are expected to produce organised and accurate work, undertaking specific business support activities.

The job holder requires familiarity with the field of communications, including graphic design, social media, photo and video production as well as a demonstrated understanding of branding and visibility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
  1. Perform specialised communications processes and activities, to support staff in the development, preparation, execution and dissemination of campaigns for target audiences.
  2. Conduct research, suggest ideas, and provide coordination support to ensure the timely and effective delivery of video/film, photographic and radio projects. Manage the storage and distribution of audio/visual materials in accordance with relevant policies.
  3. Serve as an information focal point, support and/or coordinate media coverage of events to optimise publicity of WFP’s activities.
  4. Organise and execute special events, working closely with colleagues, external partners and media, to ensure events are effectively scheduled, publicised and attended.
  5. Monitor traditional and social media, and report relevant information to senior staff to inform the development and/or evaluation of communications activities and strategies.
  6. Under guidance, prepare content for use on traditional and social media platforms and networks, and printed materials, to enhance coverage and support of WFP’s activities, ensuring consistency with corporate messages.
  7. Distribute and promote communications guidelines for WFP staff to refer to when creating content.
  8. Manage updates and further develop internal records and databases, ensuring information is accurate, organised and available for others to access.
  9. Respond to specialised queries and requests for support, using initiative and following standard processes, to ensure timely and accurate resolution of all enquiries.
  10. Maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, in order to provide an aligned, coherent service, and to identify opportunities to collaborate/integrate processes and activities.
  11. Implement improvements to communications methods and practices, to contribute to a better flow of information about WFP’s work to the media and stakeholders.
OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS
  1. Act as lead for the development and production of all visual content, including developing shot lists, storyboards, drafting scripts, video/photo editing.
  2. Generate ideas for and develop creative visual content packages, including video, photos, infographics, that convey the humanitarian situation and needs in a manner that is dignified and focuses on the capacity of people in Yemen while also advancing the advocacy and communication goals of the CO.
  3. Ensure donors are provided with necessary visibility through content gathered in the field in order to support fund-raising efforts.
  4. Coordinate with CO and AO staff to organise regular field missions to gather visual content and to support field staff with communications-related activities.
  5. Support content gathering training for WFP staff (in CO and AOs) and implementing partners by providing capacity building and on-the-job support ensuring colleagues develop their skills in communications, including taking quality photos/video and developing relevant and powerful case studies.
  6. Collaborate with professional photographers to the collect high-quality photos of WFP activities, as needed
  7. Ensure all content is delivered to deadline, in line with WFP brand guidelines and reflects the advocacy and communication goals of the CO
  8. Maintain close collaboration with the Regional Bureau video focal point.
  9. Act as key focal point and project manager for all externally commissioned visual content, ensuring that objectives are well understood by all parties and all assets are delivered on time and to the required standard.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: 5 or more years of relevant work experience;

Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE
  • Highly proficient video editor with a background producing video content within a humanitarian context
  • Photographer and videography skills, including editing (Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom and Premier)
  • Graphic design skills (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign)
