Head of Programmes*

in Ouagadougou 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

As Head of Programmes, you will be responsible for the effective coordination of regional programmes in the Sahel area (Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger). Under the supervision of the Country Director, you will work on the development of the multiannual country programme and contribute to its implementation and monitoring in order to maximise Welthungerhilfe's impact on the basis of Welthungerhilfe (WHH) strategy and according to WHH quality standards. In addition, you will represent Welthungerhilfe in the country in agreement with the Country Director.

Your responsibilities

  • Control and monitor the implementation of projects and programmes according to Welthungerhilfe quality standards, including the setup of an effective and participatory M&E system
  • Contribute towards definition and orientation of the planned multiannual program strategy
  • Identify, examine and assess (pre-select) new project ideas on the basis of the intervention strategy, the concept papers and the orientation framework of the Country Programme
  • Write proposal and reports for donor submission
  • Coordinate preparation of internal project documents and ensure the preparation of cost and financing plans
  • Develop and manage country programme and develop bridges and synergies with other WHH programmes in the sub-region
  • Identify potential new project partners and ensure active collaboration with partner organizations and their capacity building
  • Ensure reporting occurs correctly and in due time (status and financial reports) to Head Office and donors
  • Identify lessons learnt from programmes and projects and ensure networking on best practice and lessons learnt with Head Office
  • Participate in recruitment and training of team members
  • Participate in securing of funding through proposals, donor relations and other mechanisms
  • Support the preparation of a preparedness and contingency plan as well as an emergency prepardeness plan (Eprep)
  • Represent Welthungerhilfe vis-à-vis other national and international, governmental and non-governmental bodies as well as relief and development organizations

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnic degree in a relevant field like humanitarian/development studies or an equivalent degree related to the position
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant working and leadership experience in a similar position with an NGO, regional experience is an asset
  • Sound experience in project cycle management, MEAL and programme coordination
  • Experience with emergency donors like ECHO, WFP, OFDA...
  • Strong  experience in design and coordination of emergency preparedness and response activities
  • Technical expertise in food and nutrition security, resilience building and LRRD
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including analytical skills and strategic thinking
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Professionnal proficiency in French and English (verbal and written)
