The Hygiene Promotion Officer is responsible for the day to day implementation of Hygiene Promotion activities. The role encompasses supervising the Hygiene Promotion team, planning and reporting activities in informal tented settlements (ITSs) and public schools within the Bekaa area.
Duties and responsibilities
Generic responsibilities
Ensure adherence to NRC policies and donor requirements
Implement delegated Hygiene Promotion portfolio according to plan of action
Prepare and develop status reports as required by line manager
Ensure proper filing of documents
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
Supervise the Hygiene Promotion team, ensure their capacity building and transfer key skills
Ensure that all protection related detected cases are referred to the concerned referral focal point and to the related Protection Coordinator.
Carry out related mainstreaming of protection in programme daily implementation as per the set NRC’s Protection mainstreaming guidelines, and ensure reporting any breaches/concerns for proper action.
Specific responsibilities
Coordinate the Hygiene Promotion activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets and plans
Involve and inform WASH, school and host community committees about the hygiene promotion activities
Break down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly and quarterly implementation plans
Coordinate with relevant consortium partners to harmonize the hygiene promotion activities and plan integrated activities
Ensure that procurement, delivery and distribution of kits, materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures respecting the deadlines and ensuring the quality of the items
Manage the performance of relevant Hygiene Promotion staff, set objectives, monitor work plans, and provide constructive feedback on a regular basis.
Search for and facilitate introduction of new technology, methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities
Refer and respond to WASH related referrals including lice, scabies, typhoid, diarrhea etc. by taking relevant actions accordingly through conducting Hygiene Promotion sessions, campaigns and distribution of Hygiene kits.
Mentor WASH focal points in informal settlements and schools, ensuring they are able and engaged in preventing and responding to WASH emergencies and operating, maintaining WASH facilities and promoting hygiene and behavior messages
Record targets and monitor behavioural changes on a regular basis through WASH committee reports and school committee follow up
Contribute to improving the quality of the Hygiene Promotion activities conducted by the team through focusing on high quality outputs, evidence-based project management and cost-effective implementation
Prepare and share lesson plans, IEC materials and Hygiene Promotion activities with the WASH Coordinator and Hygiene Promotion team
Critical interfaces
By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are:
Logistics: Raising Purchase Requests and check the quality of hygiene items
WASH team: Liaising and referring WASH related activities
Other NRC Programmes: Supporting other teams in relevant activities, assessments, and referrals

Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Nursing, Teaching, Nutrition, Social studies, Public Health or equivalent
Minimum two years of experience working in Hygiene Promotion within a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile environments
Contextual knowledge of refugees in informal tent settlements, students in public schools and host community
Experience with start-up of projects in host communities
Experience in Mobile Data Collection (Kobo Collect)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in Adobe Illustrator and knowledge and skills of designing leaflets, posters and other IEC materials
Fluency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal
Minimum two years of experience working in Hygiene Promotion within a humanitarian/recovery context
