Overall Purpose of the Role – To provide strategic support to the DRC Sudan programme as it undertakes a comprehensive review of its programming, with a focus on strengthening protection activities and mainstreaming protection across our work. The purpose of this role is to develop a roadmap for the team to achieve that objective.
The mission will entail traveling to all 5 field offices in Darfur, and working alongside protection teams and our recently arrived Protection Manager to understand the context, ask critical questions about what we do and why, and offer considered opinions on what DRC’s future protection programming should look like. It will involve collaborating with the Protection Manager to deliver trainings, with a preference for on the job coaching and workshop-based approaches. You will be asked to produce short easy-to-digest documents (guidance notes, SOPs and tools) that can be used by national protection staff, while also drafting your professional advice for the SMT on setting the strategic direction of the programme and efficient resource allocation for improved results.
The protection strategy for the programme is envisaged as a document that guides both the organization’s future protection programming by area as well as mainstreaming protection across sectors and responses.
The below objectives outline key priorities envisions for the deployment, however, these will be reviewed and prioritized in consultation with the Head of Program upon commencement of the contract and throughout the course of the deployment.

About You:
Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
- A minimum of 7 years of experience with humanitarian and/or development work in protection, case management and programme implementation experience in the field
- Experience in developing strategies and strengthening systems
- Experience in working with partners
- Experience in capacity building
Desirable Qualifications and Competencies:
- Comprehensive knowledge of DRC and its approach to protection
- Strong on assessments and case management
- Demonstrated technical qualities in areas related to protection
- Demonstrated ability to work in complex, ambiguous situations as well as competing priorities, both in a team and independent manner.
