The International Potato Center (CIP) seeks a Research Associate for the Crop and Systems Science Division to work mainly in projects related to production of quality seed of potato and sweet potato.

 

The Center: CIP is a not-for-profit international agricultural research-for-development organization with a focus on potato, sweet potato, and Andean roots and tubers. Its vision is of roots and tubers improving the lives of the poor. CIP is dedicated to achieving food security, improved well-being, and gender equity for poor people in root and tuber farming and food systems of the developing world. CIP works with partners to contribute high quality science, technology, and capacity strengthening for sustainable science-based solutions. CIP is headquartered in Lima, Peru, with staff and activities in over 30 locations across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. CIP is a member of the CGIAR Consortium. CGIAR is a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future. Its science is carried out by the 15 research centers who are members of the CGIAR Consortium in collaboration with hundreds of partner organizations.

 

The position: The Research Associate will be based in HQ and he/she will report to the “Plant Pathologist Scientist” in Lima.

 

Duties and responsibilities: 
  • Lead a group of researchers and technicians thru the development of the research project to guarantee the correct execution and timing of the project.
  • Evaluate and analyze the data collected in the research project to guarantee its accuracy and relevance to the project outline.
  • Design and develop an experiment in according to variety of methods, availability and quantity of resources to contribute with the main research project.
  • Analyze and evaluate facts and new experiment’s findings to contribute with the research analysis and publication results.
  • Manage research data generated from field trials to maintain an accurate and updated database system.
  • Produce progress reports and scientific papers of the experiments on regular basis to contribute with the data collection.
  • Interpret and prepare data to guarantee the publication in a peer review journal.
  • Comply with applicable health and safety CIP policies and procedures.
  • Develop proposals to implement new research questions.



Requirements

What are we looking for?

 

  • Agronomist, biologist or related professions.
  • Master's degree or studies concluded in pathology, soils, agricultural production, microbiology or plant physiology.
  • Experience not less than 6 years in similar positions, preferably working on potatoes.
  • Experience in the search for competitive funds and preparation of scientific publications.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and accomplish tasks in limited periods ("deadlines").
  • Demonstrated ability to manage databases, perform analyzes and write proposals, technical reports and scientific articles.
  • Desire to successfully implement research projects, develop activities in the field, coordinate with other institutions and other activities related to the development of the project.
  • Knowledge of statistical software (R, SAS, or others).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office
  • Communication in written and spoken English advanced level.
  • Willingness for learning and for teamwork
