You are applying to the ILO generic internship roster, which is published several times per year. The roster will be made available to all departments and field offices, which will then select and directly contact suitable candidates only.

ILO Internship Programme provides an opportunity for talented individuals to:

(a) increase understanding of relevant issues at the international level by involving them directly in the work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies;

(b) gain practical experience with the ILO directly related to their field of study.

The internship programme is not intended to lead to a career in the ILO. There should be no expectation of further employment at the end of the internship.

Department

Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Lima PERU. Possible areas: Administration, Finance, Programme, Information Technology or Human Resources.

Learning area

(a) Increase their understanding of relevant issues by involving them directly in the daily work of the Office and the application of ILO principles, programmes and strategies.

(b) Gain practical work experience with the ILO directly related to their field of studies.

As an intern in the Regional Office, you will be exposed to a whole range of areas providing support to the office in the specific area assigned. You will be trained in the use of internal systems and learn about procedures and practices relevant to the specific area of work.

Description of Duties

  • Administration

The Intern will assist in providing administration services and maintaining databases and records for events or other logistics tasks involved. S/he assist in preparing background information for use in meetings and/or develop reports for different requests. S/he could also assist the office in terms of proposals and report writings.

  • Finance

The Intern will contribute in the process review to collaborate with the CRAS and Finance Officer making recommendations with regards to possible changes or adjustments in the current Finance workflow process, particularly in payments (necks of bottle). The intern will gain experience in working with staff who are involved in the following tasks: accounting, budget, verification, analysis.

  • Programme

The Intern will gain experience through working with the Regional Office Programme Unit, and other staff in the office by assisting in strategic programming, coordination, analytical and the operational work in the Office. Accordingly the Intern will primarily assist in providing programming services and in maintaining & updating databases and records on programming activities for programme monitoring and evaluation purposes. The Intern will help to maintain relevant programme and technical cooperation information systems and databases, and prepare background information on areas covered by the ILO country programme.

  • Human Resources.

As an intern in the dynamic Human Resources Regional unit, you will be exposed to a whole range of exciting areas such as recruitment, training & development, organizational design, entitlements, employee's relations, talent and performance management, internal communication, staff wellbeing and occupational health, among others. You will gain experience in working with HR experts who are formulating and interpreting human resources policy; planning and administering career development schemes; advertising vacancies, interviewing and testing applicants and selecting the most suitable candidates; ensuring the timely and efficient filling of vacancies.

  • Information Technology.

The Intern will assist the IT Officer to find different technological solutions. Collaborate with the preparation of classified information needs for the organization. The Intern will help to maintain relevant systems and databases, support office meetings and official’s technological problems.

Interns should expect to devote 10% to 20% of their time to administrative tasks.

Required profile
Education

Advanced university degree in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, Human Resource Management, Computer Science, Economics or Social Science depending on the area of interest to develop the internship. The candidate should be enrolled in their final year of graduate (Master degree or above) degree programme or should have completed such a programme no longer than 12 months prior to this application

Experience

Any relevant work experience in Administration, Finance, Programme, Information Technology and Human Resources would be beneficial.
Good knowledge of Microsoft office programmes, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Languages

Working (both oral and written) knowledge of Spanish. Knowledge of English would be an advantage

Competencies

adaptable to an international, multicultural and multilingual environment, good communication skills and be able to work in a team.

Stipend

$. 345 dollars to be paid monthly in local currency.

Selection process:

Following a first screening by the Human Resources Development Department (HRD), field offices will short-list applicants. You will be directly contacted should an internship opportunity match your profile. If you have not been contacted by any department or field office within six months after your application, you can consider that you have not been selected for this roster. If still eligible, you may apply to the next roster. 

If shortlisted, you may be contacted by the field office for a written test and/or interview. The ILO may use communication technologies such as Skype, Video or teleconference, e-mail, etc for the assessment and evaluation of candidates.

Stipend:

As an intern in the field, you will receive a monthly stipend from the ILO based on the cost of living in the area of the duty station, unless you receive funding through another institution (for example your university or a foundation). If you receive partial funding, ILO will cover the difference to ensure you receive the appropriate stipend per month. Your travel to the duty station will be at your own expense.

Insurance:

Please note that the ILO does not take responsibility for any costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship. You will be responsible for your own insurance coverage for illness and accidents for the duration of the internship at the duty station (whether Geneva or the field).

The ILO does not charge any fee at any stage of the recruitment process whether at the application, interview, processing or training stage.
