Malteser International has been implementing projects in Uganda for over two decades focussing mainly on health and nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, livelihood and environment.

To support our team in Kampala, Uganda, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Finance Assistant (m/f/d) - National position.

The Finance Assistant (m/f/d) reports directly to the Finance Officer (FO) and has technical reporting lines to the Senior Finance Officer (SFO) where applicable. The incumbent is responsible for the proper implementation of financial procedures in all Malteser Kampala programs. The Finance Assistant is responsible for petty cash Management and record keeping of financial documents.

Responsibilities:

Finance:
  • Prepare and check procurement and service provider vouchers and bills for approval, and prepare payment documents for signing
  • Ensure that all documents are complete with the appropriate supporting documents, reviewed and approved before processing for payment
  • Review transaction-supporting documents to ensure that all are complete and filed accordingly
  • Ensure that all payments are made on time
  • Responsible for budget lines follow up and the correct use of all the donor codes
  • Support in the Preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements and consolidates these in hard copy or review by the SFO/CAC.
  • Post all petty Cash financial transactions into the MI Daily Expenses Log (Excel sheet) and then imports all data to the Accounting management system
  • Responsible for the petty cash Management at country Office including bookkeeping
  • Responsible for all petty cash expenditures and replenishment requests when two-thirds of the money is spent
  • Responsible for filling all financial documentation for cash and expense management for the duty station

Others:
  • Responsible for elaboration, maintenance, and reconciliation of cashbooks
  • Ensure regular collection and elaboration of information for communication purposes and public relations

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Finance, Business Administration or related field.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience with good understanding of donor and INGO procedures
  • strong organizational skills
  • computer literate with hands on MS Office programs, especially in MS Excel
  • A demonstrated ability to multi-task and process information into action as to not delay program activities
  • A clear understanding of finance ethics and donor compliance
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)

  • Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda
  • Duration of contract: 6 months
