The United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and its Under-Secretary-General are mandated to provide provide stronger leadership, enhance coordination and coherence across the system, mobilize political will and robust partnership and strengthen capacity building support – through the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) - to ensure a balanced implementation of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy. One of the key elements of the mandate is to improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for counter-terrorism efforts.


In order to better showcase the activities undertaken by UNOCT/UNCCT supporting the efforts of Member States to prevent violent extremism and counter terrorism, UNOCT is to increase its outreach activities and to build on strong brand online and off-line including through the development of impactful communications products in accordance with its communications strategy.


This position is homebased and requires onsite meetings in the UN as required.

Functional Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and implementation of a UNOCT Strategic Plan, which will include, inter alia, communications and visibility aspects;

  • Carries out basic research including collecting, analysing and presenting data and other information relevant to the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan and any other derived products such as specific action plans and log frames ;

  • Supports the assessment and monitoring of the implementation of the Strategic Plan and any other derived products such as specific action plans in a timely manner, with technical input from the office of  the Chief of OUSG; 

  • Draft concept notes, summaries, talking points, background notes, reports and other materials as required; 

  • Coordinates, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally, in a constructive, effective and efficient manner

  • Performs other tasks as required. 

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, public policy, international law, international relations or other relevant field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • . "Minimum 2 years of professional experience in project support and reporting is essential
  • Work experience in international or regional organizations is an asset. 
Language:
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.
  • Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an asset.
