Job Description

Background/IRC Summary:

Since 2007, IRC has worked with refugees and other vulnerable populations in Jordan.Working in coordination with the humanitarian community and the Government of Jordan, the IRC's assistance programs for Syrian refugees in Jordan include both camp-based (Zaatari, and Azraq camps) and urban-based refugee assistance (Mafraq, Ramtha, Irbid). Our current child protection activities are exclusively urban-based with a focus on Street and Working Children.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The Child Protection Case Worker is specifically responsible to identify and document cases and conduct comprehensive case management services;
  • Conduct timely registration and documentation of Child Protection cases assigned by the supervisor
  • Conduct Best Interest Assessment (BIA) within 48 hours of the registration of the case identifying protection risks, vulnerabilities and flag interventions required
  • Develop and implement care plan for the child, and where applicable with family members, on the basis of the identified risks, vulnerabilities, strengths and needs
  • Undertake timely referrals to specialized services according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) addressing the child’s needs and ensuring that each case is prioritized according to the risk level identified

Maintain and document regular follow ups and home visits to ensure all needed services and action points as per the case plan are carried out within agreed timeframes

Work with supervisors and managers to call and prepare for case conferences and best interest determination panels for complex and high risk cases

Ensure that data collection is in accordance with data protection protocols and confidentiality principles

Provide regular feedback on progress of active cases to the Child Protection Officer and Snr. Child Protection officer

Other tasks include:

Support the Outreach team in community engagement initiatives

In collaboration with the team share best practices and lesson learned

Any other tasks as required.

Key Working Relationships:

Position Reports to Child Protection Officer

Position directly supervises:N/A

Indirect Reporting: Snr Child Protection Officer and Snr. Child Protection Manager

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Data Management Officer, Outreach Officer and Adolescent Officer as well as IRC Health, WPE, Mahali, ERD and MATCH sectors

External: N/A


Qualifications

  • Education
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or relevant fields or equivalent technical training and experience in child protection.
  • Experience
  • Two years working experience in Child Protection; experience in Case Management, and/or BID will be an added advantage).

Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to function independently and with minimum supervision.
  • Have very good communication skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in English
  • Have excellent negotiation skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent computer skills (including the ability to use Excel and Microsoft Outlook).

Working Environment:Urban areas – specifically in East Amman is currently not assessed as a high-risk environment and remains generally safe as long as the IRC security protocols are observed.
