Organizational Settings

FAO Bangladesh assists the Government to formulate policies, programmes and projects to address the root causes of hunger and malnutrition, develop the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, and utilize environmental and natural resources in a sustainable way. It contributes to the development of FAO’s field programme projects in the country and implements them in the sectors of food security, agriculture and rural development.

Reporting Lines

Under overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Bangladesh, the technical supervision of the Country Team Leader (CTL) of ECTAD Programme in Bangladesh (OSRO/BGD/505/USA; GCP/GLO/710/UK) the incumbent will undertake the following duties\:

Technical Focus

The position focuses on providing on-site technical and organizational development support to the existing coordination agencies/mechanism to strengthen multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration on One Health. The following are the tasks and responsibilities;

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Provide on-site technical and organizational development support to the existing coordination agencies/mechanisms (One Health Secretariat, Technical Advisory Group and Inter-ministerial Steering Committee on One Health )to strengthen multi-sectoral and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Facilitate and support the One Health Secretariat to enact service-oriented approach to assist with multi-sectoral collaboration of One Health in action initiatives already underway
  • Provide technical and facilitation support for fully funding and mainstreaming One Health Secretariat activities within Government of Bangladesh operational budget for sustainability beyond project lifetime
  • Liaise with One Health Secretariat and other relevant government agencies and officials for the successful implementation of One Health programmes funded by FAO
  • Assist with the identification of technical assistance needs and support providing technical assistance to improve the management capacity and efficiency of One Health Secretariat
  • Support holding of Global Health Security (GHSA) / Emerging Pandemic Threats -2 (EPT2) coordination meeting for better synergies among GHSA /EPT-2 partners
  • Support development and implementation of M&E plan for One Health activities in Bangladesh
  • Support capacity building initiatives implemented with support of the One Health Secretariat
  • Support development of OH communication and outreach events and materials via both traditional and social media

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited degree in one (or more) of the following areas\: veterinary medicine, medicine, epidemiology, public health, and/or preventive medicine or related disciplines.
  • Candidate should have at least one the following degrees\: MD, DVM, or Master’s Degree.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of progressive work experience in One Health with prior experience in supporting One Health platforms, preparedness and response planning and systems

  • Previous related work experience in Bangladesh
  • Understand and be able to apply the principles of One Health, epidemiology, disease prevention and control strategies to support and strengthen disease surveillance and response systems
  • Understand and be able to apply the principles implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR 2005) and/or the Performance of Veterinary Services (PVS) Tool.
