The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international humanitarian organization founded in Denmark in 1956. DRC implements relief and development activities in more than 30 countries throughout the world, assisting more than 1.5 million people of different ethnicities and religions. DRC is a non-governmental, non-political and non-religious organization – and in DRC, people’s right to a life with dignity takes precedence over politics and principles.

DRC has been operating in Myanmar since May 2009 and in Rakhine State since 2010, responding to the humanitarian needs in the aftermath of the Cyclone Giri. DRC has recently expanded its programme providing shelter, WASH, NFIs, livelihood support and community assistance to the people affected by the June and October 2012 events in Rakhine State. DRC Myanmar in Rakhine State is funded by ECHO, SDC, DFAT, USAID and UN agencies, including UNHCR, UNICEF and UNFPA.

Information Management Officer-Livelihoods (1) Post

Overall purpose of the role:

The Livelihoods Information Management Officer (IMO) works closely with DRC Livelihoods Team, under direct guidance and supervision of DRC Livelihoods Project Manager and Livelihoods Team Leader.

This position is based in Sittwe, with travel to field locations, working with communities of Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in camps as well as with other communities in rural and urban areas in Sittwe, Pauktaw, Mruak U and Kyauktaw Townships. The position will carry

                               

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain databases and online information management systems for Livelihoods related activities;
  • Support the Livelihoods Manager and Team Leader in compiling donor reports and be the focal point for all data related to Livelihoods program;
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of all entered data into the IM systems and databases;
  • Lead on the development of tools for data collection in the field;
  • Responsible for all data collection exercises related to the Livelihoods program;
  • Provide support to the Livelihoods team in collecting, collating, analyzing information;
  • Develop relevant visualization tools (i.e. maps, graphs, infographics, dashboards) to feed into reports to present the information gathered;
  • Provide training to DRC Livelihoods staff in how to access and use the databases and information management tools;
  • Support the maintenance of the protection monitoring platform in Rakhine State (i.e trouble shooting, training to staff, data analysis etc)
  • Support the development of case studies;
  • Ensure constant coordination with the programme team;
  • Compile weekly and monthly reports on programme implementation;
  • Work very closely with the MEAL team, providing them with all necessary data and info regarding the Livelihoods program.

 

Qualifications and minimum requirements:

  • University (BA/BSc) degree in relevant field plus 4 years relevant experience working with a humanitarian or development organization or
  • Extended period (3+ years) of relevant experience working in a similar role and environment;
  • Knowledge of statistical software (such as SPSS and STATA). Advanced skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access (or similar tools) is strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Flexible and prepared to travel intensively in the region;
  • Prepared to work with both Rakhine Buddhist and Muslim communities.
  • Fluency in English and Myanmar.

  • Understanding of operational context in Rakhine;
  • Understanding of humanitarian response principles;
  • Experience working with vulnerable individuals.
  • English written and spoken
