The Norwegian Red Cross is part of the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, the world’s largest humanitarian network with millions of volunteers operating in 190 countries. The RCRC Movement’s mission is to safe life, alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity especially during armed conflicts and other emergencies. The international engagement of NorCross is based on and guided by humanitarian needs and the humanitarian imperative aiming at achieving humanitarian objectives. Internationally, NorCross operates exclusively inside the framework of the RCRC Movement and has established regional and country offices to ensure decentralized decision-making and proximity to partners and projects.  

Coordinator Humanitarian Innovation is one of nine professionals in Strategy and Results and our focus is to enhance the relevance, effectiveness and efficiency Norwegian Red Cross international work. Strategy and Results is one of five units in International Programmes and Preparedness and our mandate is to develop standard for and support: strategy implementation, risk- and results management, project planning and monitoring, learning, evaluation and humanitarian innovation. The unit also coordinates international digitalisation efforts and writes the annual NorCross result report.

The purpose of the Coordinator Humanitarian Innovation is to support NorCross innovate systematically within health, water, sanitation, disaster response and protection in collaboration with external and Red Cross partners. The selected candidate will oversee NorCross humanitarian innovation programme and support the design and roll out of solutions and approaches that will enable Red Cross to save more life and reduce more human suffering by working smarter and through better utilisation of technology and partnership. During the coming period, a key focus is to work with country level to develop problem statement and support bottom-up innovations (where target audience is beneficiaries or NS’s). The Coordinator will also participate in the scanning for innovations in relevant areas, support strategic innovation initiatives and strengthen NorCross innovation tools and competency

  • Understands complex questions and problems quickly; make sound and rational assessments
  • has a Higher education at master level within relevant field (Experience with user centric design may compensate for lack of formal education)

Experience:  

  • Proven track record from applying user centric design to resolve complex problems
  • Experience from leading or supporting innovation processes, preferable within the area of health, water and sanitation, disaster response, protection and/or digitalisation  
  • Supported development of innovation culture and competency in an organisation, taking advantage of opportunities provided by technology 
  • Proven track record of effective collaboration and cooperation across teams and geography within an organisation 
  • Experience from change and project management
  • Proficiency in MS office package
  • Knowledge of Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is an advantage 

Other skills:   

  • Fluency in English and Norwegian. Working proficiency of regional languages is an asset
