Background Information - BSSC

The UNOPS Bangkok Shared Service Centre (BSSC) is a Shared Services Centre (SSC) unit established for the purpose of providing internal, global, cost-effective transactional services which enhance the operational capacity of UNOPS and standardize systems and procedures. The BSSC, among other functions, carries out high-quality transactional services within the area of personnel contract administration and payroll.

Under the guidance and supervision of the ICT Associate, the Senior Assistant provides support within ICT services, ensuring high quality of work, accurate, timely and properly solution to clients in BSSC and remote offices.

Functional Responsibilities

1. Support to implementation of ICT system and effective functioning of the Bangkok office hardware and software packages, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Support with corporate information management and technology standards, guidelines and procedures for technology environment.
  • Performance of routine technical tasks, including changing of hardware electronic components (Disks, memories, network wiring, power sources, etc.) and routine repairs
  • Support the installation of commercial and in-house developed software and related upgrades
  • Support to users in backing up and restoring their files, as well as in virus detection, removal and prevention
  • Creation and customization of software package to be rollout to workstation.
  • Creation and customization of Operating system image
  • Maintain Copier/Scanner/Fax and Printer machines
  • Maintain of VDO conference units including Cisco Telepresence and Google Meet units
  • Provide computers for users including new users and replacing old laptop and desktop computers

2. Supports networks administration, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Response to user needs and questions regarding network access
  • Assistance in backup and restoration procedures for local drives
  • Assistance in off-site storage of backups
  • Maintenance of backup logs
  • Maintain and update antivirus system
  • Maintain network cabling as require
  • Create new users account in Active Directory for e-mail and internet access
  • Coordinate with ISP to ensure that Internet links are reliable

3. Provides administrative support, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Maintenance of an up-to-date inventory of software and hardware
  • Maintenance of a library of ICT related reference materials
  • Maintenance of the inventory and stock of supplies and spare parts
  • Perform Data backup on file server
  • Extracting, inputting, copying and filing data from various sources
  • Coordinate with ICT Section of UNESCAP to provide telephone system
  • Manage and Administrator of Document Management System (Laserfiche Servers)
  • Coordinate with Laserfiche support on troubleshooting, upgrades and maintenance
  • Provide support on Google G-Suite applications, such as Gmail, Calendar, Drive and etc.

4. Development and maintenance of in-house applications, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Perform application development tasks, such as Coding, Developing, Testing, Bug-Fixing and Technical Documentation
  • Develop and maintain Inventory application, Recall database for internal use

5. Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and knowledge sharing, focusing on achievement of the following results:

  • Participation and assistance in the organization of training personnel on ICT issues
  • Contributions to knowledge networks and communities of practice

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: 
  • Secondary education required Diploma or University Degree, preferably in information sciences, computer sciences or engineering desirable.
  • Knowledge of  UN policies, procedures and practices highly desirable
Experience:
  • At least 5 years progressively responsible, job related experience in working in the field of information technology and/or telecommunications and systems, preferably in an international environment
  • Good working knowledge of hardware/software, Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange 2010, Windows Server 2012/2016, Windows 10 and Microsoft Office 2016
  • Some experience in UN system organizations is desirable
  • Proficiency in computers and office software packages (MS Office) and experience in handling of web-based management systems is required.
Language Requirements:
  • Full knowledge of the working language is essential (English).
  • Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is an asset.

Contract duration: Open-ended, subject to organizational requirements, availability of funds and satisfactory performance.
