Job Overview/Summary: the WPE Prevention officer will be disseminating information and provide trainings to the community on issues related to women and girls.In this position the Prevention Officer will also work with service providers in the area to provide information about WPE program, GBV, and create a referral pathway to enable effective case management, in addition to directly supervising 5 community mobilizersThe Prevention Officer will also be engaged in assessment of risks faced by women and girls in the targeted communities and development of response strategies.

Major RESPONSIBILITIES: The WPE Prevention Officer shall:

  • With support from Sr. WPE Prevention Officer, plan, initiate, and carry out all community outreach, mobilization, and risk mitigation activities in selected communities.
  • Conduct community awareness sessions, mobilize new and existing community groups, and carry out training and capacity building of community members on issues relating to women and girls, focusing on GBV in IDP camps.
  • Provide information sessions with women and girls in the community to disseminate information about available services.
  • Conduct safety audits by means of community-level interviews with key informants such as community and religious leaders, local council members, local service providers,and focus group discussions with IDP and host community women and girls on needs and problems faced by women and girls.
  • Carry out service mapping of all available services and assistance provided to women and girls by INGOs, NGOs, other humanitarian actors and government agencies in Kirkuk.
  • Build relationships with communities targeted by the project and community leaders to provide education and facilitate discussion on GBV and other issues facing women and girls.
  • With support from the community mobilizers from IDPs communities, plan and conduct a GBV awareness raising sessions that target adolescent girls in the camps. Furthermore, working on reporting the GBV concerns of adolescent girls with WPE team and the stakeholders to be addressed.
  • Implement coordination meetings between service providers to establish a referral pathway.
  • Jointly work with IRC’s Protection team members to conduct field visits and collaborate on activities.
  • Assist in linking community members to services that are provided through IRC’s Protection and WPE programs and to external resources.
  • Make regular trips to assigned IDP camps and maintain a regular field presence.
  • Develop work and movement plans outlining what tasks will be completed and when.
  • Document all outreach and mobilization activities in an accurate and timely manner using agreed tools
  • Provide field visit reports, assessment reports, and narrative reports to the Senior WPE Prevention Officer.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor degree
  • Knowledgeable in GBV and women’s rights
  • Good English language (both writing and speaking)
  • Experience working with IDPs, women and girls, and implementing programs in vulnerable communities
  • Strong organizational and reporting skills
  • Understands the challenges and obstacles women and girls face regarding cultural practices, norms, and society pressures.
  • Understands sensitivities of conducting outreach and awareness on violence related issues.
  • Ability to communicate sensitively and without judgment.
  • Emotional maturity and stability to deal with conflict and confrontation in non-violent way and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, ethnicity, and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Good communication and facilitation skills to work with community members and leaders on sensitive topics
  • Ability to work independently and check in remotely with supervisor to provide input and reporting on activities
  • Experience in report writing
