Job Description
Under the direction of the Senior Finance Manager, the Senior Finance Officer is responsible for ensuring that the day-to-day accounting operations and financial management functions are performed in accordance with IRC’s policies and procedures, and in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Duties and Responsibilities
INTEGRA Processing
- Review of field and Kampala data files for accuracy, completeness and correctness of descriptions, amounts and coding.
- Review payment vouchers, ensuring completeness of the documentation and consistency with IRC policies and procedures.
- Perform and or supervise posting of entries in INTEGRA Account, ensuring accuracy and completeness of the process.
- Support the process of preparation of the cash and bank cashbooks and various JVs.
Financial Management
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager in the preparation of donor financial reports for review by the Finance Controller.
- Work hand in hand with the Senior Finance Manager and Grants on all new budget proposals and budget revisions.
- Assist in the review of Sub grantee finance reports.
- Carry out data query in INTEGRA to provide information as may be required.
- Prepare various reports in INTEGRA for management decision making purpose.
- Participate as gatekeeper in ensuring that all transactions are in accordance with IRC financial policies and grant agreements.
- In collaboration with the Senior Finance Manager, review the Kampala related PRs and Payment Requests and ensure they are PAID timely in the INTEGRA system.
- Deputize the Finance Manager and step in for her / him when she isn’t available.
Training & Support
- Provide critical support to the field offices, through efficient and complete response to their needs.
- Review financial data submitted by the field to identify weaknesses or problems being encountered by field finance staff and recommend corrective action.
- Ensure there is good working relationship between Finance and other departments.
- Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- University Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Commerce or Finance from a reputable University.
- Professional qualification (ACCA, CPA) is an added advantage.
- Minimum of three years of accounting experience preferably with an International NGO.
- Experience working with Computerized Accounting packages e.g. SUN system is desirable.
- Ability to work with computers – MS Excel knowledge is a must.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, supervisory and organizational skills.
- Effective communication, problem solving and decision making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
