The Communications Specialist will be responsible for leading on media products and relations, leading campaigns and ensuring delivery of content for DRC Jordan, including creating copies for use in traditional media, establishing media relations conducting communications trainings to communication focal points and partner organizations. This person will also support the DRC Advocacy focal point and regional coordinator on the DRC Advocacy strategy, material and development. S/he will be managed by the Jordan Country Director and will be technically supported by DRC Jordan CO Advocacy focal point and the DRC Regional Office.

 

About the job

The individual will report directly to Head of Program. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

 

Communications

• Write press releases, feature stories, factsheets and opinion pieces in both Arabic and English for use in DRC channels and in traditional and online media, including newspapers, magazines and media outlets

• Maintain list and establish relationships with key media firms, individuals and outlets to ensure DRC Jordan advocacy and program activities’ communications materials are covered nationally and internationally.

• Be the focal point and liaise with communications/media teams in DRC country office as needed

• Develop and monitor communications schedules, liaising with staff to ensure reports, publications, graphics and videos are produced in a timely manner.

• Lead in-house creative campaigns and content in various formats in collaboration with the MENA RO.

• Lead on all DRC Jordan & donor partner’s visibility in all areas of implementation.

• Source, write and edit internal and external publications

• Production, maintenance, and dissemination of media products and tools for DRC Jordan.

• Ensure all projects communication & visibility content are up to date by scheduling regular field visits.

• Conduct communication trainings for communication focal point staff, partner NGO’s and CBO’s across Jordan.

• Ensure adherence to DRC policies and donor requirements in all external communications/visibility for DRC Jordan.

• Provide communications support in DRC’s events across Jordan (producing visibility materials, branding, talking points, etc.)

 

Advocacy

• Draft communications materials for advocacy related use

• Support the advocacy focal point in drafting talking points for staff to use in external meetings

• Support in conducting research on advocacy messages and published statements by partners and stakeholders

• Conduct research and produce abstracts on past research/reports on relevant topics as requested

• Support the regional advocacy advisor on joint advocacy activities

• Provide support in creating media communications for advocacy related use

 

 

About you

• At least 4 years of experience in communications, media, or journalism, preferably in an NGO or media setting.

• University degree in communication / journalism

 

Required / Desirable

• Experience in writing for news media and magazines in Arabic and English

• Experience in editing and copy editing

• Experience in media relations

• Basic graphic design skills (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)

• Basic photography skills

• Strong ability to prioritize and multitask

• English (fluent) & Arabic (fluent)

 

Ideally, you also have

• Previous experience with publications preferred

• Previous experience with online and offline campaigns preferred

• Ability to communicate technical information in an easy to understand, informative and collaborative manner

• Good knowledge of the Core Humanitarian Standards or other accountability measures/standards

• Experience in training and capacity building
