Description

Project Engineer in the Future Launchers Preparatory Programme (FLPP), Future Space Transportation Systems Preparation, Directorate of Space Transportation.

Duties

Under the responsibility of the Space Transportation System (STS) Manager for the FLPP, the postholder will be responsible for the ramping-up of system and service-oriented projects for Prometheus engine precursor advancements.

The duties will include:

defining system concepts increasing the versatility and competitiveness of European space transportation;
defining industrial activities and establishing relevant statements of work for STS;
managing and participating in the evaluation of tender submissions, negotiating corresponding contracts;
implementing contracts in collaboration with Procurement and other relevant ESA Departments, including assessing related deliveries;
managing the Future STS Preparation technology and demonstration roadmaps in collaboration with customer projects, technologies and demonstrator teams, in line with programme system needs;
monitoring the cost/benefit of selected systems and technology, associated programmatic risks and robustness;
developing diversification of STS stakeholders through spin-ins/spin-offs to strengthen those roadmaps and achieve programme objectives;
preparing and organising necessary reviews/key points;
defining the support to be provided by the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality and the technical assistance to STS with national agencies for related activities, establishing and managing the relevant contract/arrangement elements linked to these entities.

The postholder will be assisted as necessary by support staff such as project control, contracts, legal, quality and by engineers from the above Directorate and from national agencies under the FLPP technical assistance scheme.

Education

Applicants should have a Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in space transportation and business development, and at least five years' experience in the space transportation sector, preferably in project implementation and system engineering. Plus a thorough knowledge of the sector overall, the NewSpace environment and STS innovation processes.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
