OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Department of Communications (DCO) objectives are to\:
1. Demonstrate health policy leadership
2. Showcase WHO's impact on health
3. Promote WHO's normative and technical work4.
4.Ensure that WHO communications are timely, accessible, understandable, credible, actionable and relevant.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The pIncumbent will be responsible for supporting WHO's work on increasing public awareness of NCDs and injuries. Key responsibilities include\:
1. Identifying opportunities to grow the profile of NCDs and injuries by aligning and promoting their strategic relevance;
2. Promoting WHO resources, technical assistance and partnerships for NCDs and injuries, and develop strategies to raise public and Member State awareness of their existence and value;
3. Identifying new projects and opportunities to build WHO resources and advocacy expertise on NCDs and injuries, including collaborations with Member States and appropriate partners;
4. Supporting collaboration with the WHO team working with the Global Ambassador for NCDs and Injuries to align strategy, develop outputs and leverage the Ambassador role for high-level advocacy and engagement;
5. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: A first university degree in public health, international relations, communications, public relations or similar

Experience

Essential\: At least 5 years of experience in the field of communications.
Experience in public relations, reputation- and risk-management, related to communications.
Desirable\: Experience in international health settings or relevant areas.
Experience in a communications role relating to public health.

Skills

- Very good knowledge of public relations, reputation- and risk-management, communications;
- Knowledge of contemporary communication practices;
- Thorough knowledge of how to design an effective media campaign, likewise social media and digital campaigns;
- Planning and drafting skills for media, digital, leadership voice, and broad external relations activities;
- Excellent oral and writing skills, effectiveness in working with stakeholders like media, leadership, partners, influencers;
- Ability to be a cooperative team player with excellent interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work fast, under tight deadlines on a results-oriented basis;
- Ability to develop and implement innovative approaches and solutions;
- Functional knowledge of the workings of international and/or complex organizations.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 60,233 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 3985 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
