OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Unitaid is a global development agency engaged in finding solutions in global health, including new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases more quickly, cheaply and effectively, in low and middle-income countries. Its work includes funding initiatives to address HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, HIV coinfections/comorbidities such as hepatitis and cervical cancer, and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health. Its mission is to maximize the effectiveness of the global health response by catalysing equitable access to better health products. Unitaid funds critical steps in the pathway to accelerating access to innovations in low and middle-income countries. This includes providing funding support to facilitate or accelerate the development or market entry of new health products or create sustainable markets for existing health products that are needed to expand or optimize prevention, diagnosis or treatment.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

The role of the Team Lead is to\:

Lead and manage a team of Programme Managers and Officers.
Plan and lead development of a portfolio of grants.
Promote, maintain and oversee high standards of management quality and performance of a portfolio of grants.
Promote synergy and strategic alignment amongst complementary grants in the portfolio and other interventions.
Ensure grant implementation is aligned with overall Unitaid strategy.
Manage relationships with grant implementers and partners; develop operational and strategic partnerships globally to ensure success of the grants, including transition to new sources of funding where applicable.
Oversee collaboration of Programme Managers with units across Unitaid, especially around strategy development, impact assessment, and monitoring & evaluation.
Lead risk identification and management at organizational, portfolio, and grant levels.
Lead continuous improvement of overall Unitaid strategy, policies and processes.
Coordinate and communicate portfolio information as needed to stakeholders, including Management and the Board.
Guide, mentor, and develop team members.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: Advanced level university degree in finance/economics, public or business administration, project management, development studies/international relations or public health.

Desirable\: Degree in social sciences.

Experience

Essential\: At least 10 years of progressive experience at national/ international level in managing complex grants in the private sector, public health or international development areas, including project design, risk assessment, implementation, and results-based financial management.
Demonstrated experience managing large scale (multimillion) project portfolios. Significant experience as a team leader, decision maker and negotiator preferably at an international level and in public health and operational partnerships.
Desirable\: Significant experience in industry and/or other international financing. Experience in project performance evaluation and audit methodologies. Experience or good understanding of international relations or political science.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 87,108 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 5154 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
