Description

Position at Ashoka

Ashoka UK - Community Manager

At the heart of Ashoka UK is our community, comprising 45 of the UK's leading social entrepreneurs, our support network and staff. The community's purpose is 'to nurture the changemaker within one another and mobilize our community's power for a better tomorrow'. We are looking for an empathetic, confident and strategic leader with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be the facilitator of the community and bring the purpose to life. This means offering support, making connections, creating opportunities to engage and communicating so that the community becomes increasingly self-sustaining.

If you are an accomplished leader and team player with curiosity about how to best drive social impact and expertise in forging strong communities, and are looking for your next challenge, come and join us! You could have five years' experience or 15: the most important thing is that you are passionate, confident and empathetic.

Role description

  • Lead the redesign process as we shift from direct service to a self-sustaining community model, implementing methods and tools to help drive this.
  • Develop and instigate a communications strategy, for both the entire community and to individuals. This could involve making introductions, suggesting connections, identifying sources of support and disseminating opportunities.
  • Design and implement opportunities for engagement, for example, events and retreats.
  • Work with the partnerships team in the UK and across Europe to identify opportunities and create programs that benefit the community and Ashoka, and help bring the community purpose to life.
  • Contribute to Ashoka UK's overall strategy, based on learnings from those working at the forefront of social impact.

Who are we looking for?

We're looking for an empathetic, confident and strategic leader with a passion for and expertise in social entrepreneurship and building communities.

Excellent communications and interpersonal skills are crucial: this is a highly sociable role that requires constant interaction with people from all walks of life and levels of seniority - from Ashoka, the community and outside the organization. Fluent English is essential.

You will have an inquiring, questioning mind and be happy to challenge the status quo. Experience of community building and/or of communications will be hugely beneficial, although the right character traits will be more important.

Empathy, the ability to connect on a human level, to truly understand people and situations are the most important skills for this role.

A deep understanding of social entrepreneurship, different business and impact models, as well as the different challenges that founders face, will enable the successful candidates to make relevant introductions, offer appropriate support and truly understand their work and the challenges founders, in particular, are facing.
