Job Description
Over the past 80 years, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) has developed unparalleled expertise in responding to emergencies and helping uprooted communities to rebuild. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC’s mission is to help people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover, and gain control of their future. The International Rescue Committee Italy is part of the IRC global network, which has its headquarters in New York. The IRC is on the ground in more than 40 countries, providing emergency relief and rebuilding lives in the wake of disaster. Through 28 regional offices in cities across the United States, and 15 countries in Europe, the IRC also helps refugees resettle, integrate and become self-sufficient. The IRC is committed to a culture of bold leadership, innovation in all aspects of our work, creative partnerships and, most crucially, accountability to those we serve. The IRC is a tireless advocate for the most vulnerable. The IRC in Italy The IRC was founded in 1933 to assist refugees relocating to the United States from Germany and other European states. At the end of World War II, the IRC was one of the few organizations ready and able to assist the millions of refugees in need of sanctuary. In 2015, the IRC returned to the continent to provide immediate services for new arrivals on the Greek island of Lesvos at the height of the new refugee influx. The IRC’s response since expanded to include mainland Greece, Serbia and neighboring countries of the Balkans, Germany, and Italy. We also work with/through local partners in Portugal, Spain, Bulgaria and a number of other EU member states. In Italy, the International Rescue Committee has been working with local partners to respond to the needs of refugees and migrants in vulnerable situations. Our current areas of programming are protection, child protection and early childhood development.
