ABOUT THE JOB

Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Team Leader, the Emergency Officer is responsible for building and coordinating a volunteer network of key informants, community leaders, and local authorities to support DRC emergency activities in Kandahar Province. Support will be given by feeding ERM team with feedback and alerts on possible humanitarian critical situations. He/she will also be working in cooperation with DRC’s protection, livelihood, MEAL and Access teams, as well as local communities. The Emergency Officer works under the direct supervision of the Emergency Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

To achieve the overall and specific position’s objectives the job holder tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design a network that covers areas assigned to DRC ERM
  • Identifying suitable persons in the communities to involve in the volunteer work
  • Train and prepare volunteer to their specific tasks
  • Keep relations with involved communities and authorities
  • Along with safety and access colleagues, maintain a heightened understanding of ongoing conflict and natural disasters to anticipate displacements.
  • Collect, make the first screen of and transmit feedbacks and transmit feedbacks and alert to ERM TL
  • Data collection, both through paper based and digital forms when necessary
  • Maintain and expand (whenever necessary) the network
  • Support team leader on government liaison issues, with relevant stakeholders;
  • Any other tasks assigned by supervisor

 

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role you must have:

Experience and technical competencies: 

  • At least graduated 12th, university degree is desirable;
  • Minimum 3 years’ relevant experience within a humanitarian organization, prior experience in emergency responses is desirable;
  • Good knowledge of the region and understand the movement pattern of the people including Returnees and IDPs;
  • Good experience of working directly with Afghan communities and local authorities;
  • Experience in community mobilization, community empowerment or community participation
  • Good communications skills; Good written and spoken Pashto; spoken and written English is an asset
  • Computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and report writing ability are an asset

    Education:

  • At least graduated 12th, university degree is preferred

    Languages:

  • Pashto
  • Dari is an asset
  • English is an asset

We Offer:

  • DRC-DDG will offer the successful applicant a contract till end of 2019.
  • Salary and conditions will be in accordance with DRC/DDG salary scale
