Organizational Setting

The Department of Safeguards (SG) is the organizational hub for the implementation of IAEA safeguards. The IAEA implements nuclear verification activities for some 180 States in accordance with their safeguards agreements. The safeguards activities are undertaken within a dynamic and technically challenging environment including advanced nuclear fuel cycle facilities and complemented by the political diversity of the countries.

The Department of Safeguards consists of six Divisions\: three Operations Divisions\: A, B and C, for the implementation of verification activities around the world; three Technical Divisions\: Division of Concepts and Planning, Division of Information Management, and Division of Technical and Scientific Services; as well as two Offices\: the Office of Safeguards Analytical Services and the Office of Information and Communication Services.

The main objective of the Department is to maintain and further develop an effective and efficient verification system in order to draw independent, impartial and timely safeguards conclusions, thus providing credible assurances to the international community that States are in compliance with their safeguards obligations. The departmental operating environment is interactive, participative and dynamic with continuous inputs received from the Board of Governors, the General Conference, policy- and decision-makers, as well as counterparts in Member States and in the international development community.

Within the Department of Safeguards, the Office of Information and Communication Systems (SGIS) is the centre of competence for the specification, development and maintenance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems and for the management of all ICT infrastructure and services to support safeguards. In partnership with other organizational entities, SGIS is responsible for planning and implementing an ICT strategy as well as enforcing ICT standards.

The Infrastructure Section is responsible for providing secure, reliable, and dependable computing, collaboration, database and communications services to the Department of Safeguards. The Infrastructure Section cooperates with other Sections and Divisions in the Department of Safeguards to deliver IT services at a very high standard.


Main Purpose

Reporting to the Section Head, the IT Systems Engineer (SharePoint) ensures high availability of collaboration platforms, plays a key role in the implementation and management of information management systems and enterprise content management infrastructure which are the foundation of the single authoritative source of Safeguards information.


Role

The IT Systems Engineer (SharePoint) is\: (a) a team member who manages collaboration platforms (SharePoint) and document management systems, (b) assists in troubleshooting and fixing technical issues on multiple computer platforms; and (c) a project team member, working together with system engineers, analysts, developers, and network and security engineers in the engineering, and deployment of secure and reliable systems.


Functions / Key Results Expected

  • Perform administration, configuration, tuning and daily operational functions of the Department’s collaboration platforms (SharePoint).
  • Implement features and configurations to ensure the security, reliability and availability of the Department's collaboration platforms (SharePoint) and ensure that the systems meet the functional and performance criteria.
  • Ensure that all data access from diverse sources follows relevant information security policies, guidelines and practices, and that access rights are enforced on relevant collaboration platforms (SharePoint).
  • Provide assistance to software developers by creating new and/or modifying existing test systems, including the maintenance of consistency across development, test and production environments.
  • Schedule backups and monitor backup status, including maintaining and modifying when necessary the backup and restore procedures, and performing information recovery as required of relevant collaboration platforms (SharePoint) and document management systems.
  • Monitor the standard performance and availability of collaboration platforms (SharePoint) and document management systems and apply corrective tuning measures and trouble-shooting as required.
  • Identify, anticipate, troubleshoot and resolve collaboration platform (SharePoint) technical issues.
  • Perform system administrative functions for collaboration (SharePoint) and document management platforms.
  • Test and deploy new systems through a controlled release management regimen.
  • Participate in data integration projects as required.
  • Provide documentation regarding the maintenance and security aspects of relevant collaboration platforms (SharePoint) and document management systems.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

  • Bachelor's Degree - A university degree in information technology, computer science, engineering or closely related field.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant working experience as an MS SharePoint administrator.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.

Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $47322 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 19639, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
