About the job :

The Livelihood Assistant supports the implementation and monitoring of livelihoods programme activities. S/he is responsible for community outreach, data collection and entry, conducting household registration and assessments, support with the provision of business and financial management and livelihoods trainings to beneficiaries as well as with the disbursement of business grants .

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

Under the Supervision of the LH Officer and LH Team Leader:

  • Assist with community outreach and engagement to raise community awareness of activities
  • Assist with the delivery of livelihoods trainings to beneficiaries, and the smooth running of the DRC Community Support Centre
  • Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of DRC activities
  • Conduct beneficiary identification and assessment, and support community-led planning and design of programme activities.
  • Conduct data collection for assessments and surveys such as market assessments, price monitoring, labour market studies, feasibility studies with the guidance of the Livelihoods Officer / Team Leader.
  • Oversee the work of temporary enumerators and daily workers during outreach, data collection, registrations and distributions.
  • Assist in maintaining up-to-date, accurate records of registration, community meetings and other relevant programme documentation, including through data entry and verification. 
  • Assist with the preparation of beneficiary eligibility, attendance and distribution lists, and with cash distributions.
  • Assist in preparing documentation for the procurement of goods and services (such as office supplies) in compliance with DRC requirements and delivered in a timely manner.
  • Conduct activities in a community- and rights-based, participatory manner, maintaining an Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD), and conflict-sensitive approach to community engagement.
  • Any other assignment by the line manager

About you  

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, ability to engage with communities respectfully and openly, and to work sensitively with vulnerable people.
  • Good contextual knowledge and awareness of the market gaps
  • Teaching experience is an asset
  • Ability to work quickly and flexibly, collaborate and work as part of a team to achieve joint objectives.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information, and act with transparency and integrity.
  • Competence in basic Microsoft Office software (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook etc). Experience using tablets/ODK preferred.
  • Understanding of the local context, key humanitarian issues and displacement trends.
  • Experience working with UN or Non-Governmental Organizations, particularly in livelihoods, or in a relevant field such as social work, urban planning or business development, or business management.
  • Willingness and capacity to work in the field and travel frequently to project sites as required

Level: Band I
