The United Nations Office of Counter Terrorism (UNOCT) was established by the General Assembly in June 2017. The Office has five main functions: (a) provide leadership on the General Assembly counter-terrorism mandate across the United Nations System; (b) enhance coordination and coherence across the 38 Counter- Terrorism Implementation Task Force entities to ensure the balanced implementation of the four pillars of the Strategy; (c) strengthen the delivery of United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building assistance to Member States; (d) improve visibility, advocacy and resource mobilization for United Nations counter-terrorism efforts; and ensure that due priority is given to counter-terrorism across the United Nations System and that the important work on preventing violent extremism is firmly rooted in the Strategy. The United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT) is part of UNOCT and promotes the delivery of United Nations capacity building assistance to Member States. 

The position supports the work of  the UNOCT Strategic Communication project. The Junior Consultant will focus on supporting effective project implementation.


Functional Responsibilities

  • In close collaboration with the Project Team including Programme Manager, the Analyst will:
  • Provide direct assistance to, and in some cases lead elements of the planning and delivery of capacity building activities, at the global level.
  • Manage timely and high-quality reporting of the project’s activities, including compiling post- activity reports, surveys, scoping mission reports.
  • Act as the focal point for data collection to be used for the measurement and evaluation of the project.
  • Support the coordination of capacity building workshops with other UN, regional and CSO entities.
  • Support knowledge management activities of the programme through research, data collection and drafting talking points.
  • Contribution to timely and high-quality project reporting.
  • Provides administrative and travel support, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • All official transport needs of personnel met with related security arrangements/clearances.
  • Administrative, travel and logistics support to conferences, workshops, retreats and other events.
  • Arrangements of travel and hotel reservations for individuals and groups..
  • Review and preparation of travel authorizations, documentation, payments.
  • Processes travel claims in OneUNOPS and purchase orders for travel activities, payments, and contracts.

The Analyst will provide quarterly reports setting out progress against the following key deliverables:

  • Support to scoping missions and workshops.  
  • Contribution to timely and high-quality project reporting.
  • Effective data collection for the measurement and evaluation of the project.


Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in strategic communications, political science, international relations, public administration, strategic public relations, or other relevant field.
  • Advanced university degree in relevant field is preferred and can substitute two years of the required experience.
Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project management, and operations is desired.  
  • Direct experience in PVE project management would be an asset.
  • Experience providing reporting for a range of audiences and in measurement and evaluation would be an asset.
  • Experience with Travel and Logistical work is an asset.  
Language:
  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency is another UN language is an asset.
