TERMS OF REFERENCE FOR INTERNSHIP
Internship in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Section, Division of International Protection

Duty station: UNHCR Geneva, Switzerland (HQ)
Duration of the internship: 6 months
Closing date:  05 June 2019
Planned start date: 12 June 2019

Organizational context

The internship will be placed in the Division of International Protection and more precisely within the IDP section. The internship will focus on UNHCR¿s engagement with IDPs through the support to the organization of events for the GP20 Plan of Action for Advancing Prevention, Protection and Solutions for Internally Displaced People 2018-2020, among other tasks.

Duties and responsibilities
- Support the organization of events for the GP20 Plan of Action and the 10th anniversary of the African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa (Kampala Convention), including trainings and workshops.
- Assist in coordinating inputs related to the protection of IDPs for UNHCR's recommendations to the Universal Periodic Review and other special procedures on human rights, as well as coordination of a summary of UNHCR's IDP operations.
- Assist with the organization of meetings and events, and with note-taking and reporting.
- Undertake any other task as assigned by the Chief of Section.

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
- Recent graduates (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university of higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization. Preferred areas of study are law, political science, social science or related field.

- Candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR are not eligible.

Competencies
- Demonstrated interest in human rights, and particularly the rights of IDPs.
- Competent user of standard word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Experience using online content management platforms, in particular WordPress, is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in research and drafting of documents.
- Demonstrated competencies in administration, organization and time-management.

Language
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required, knowledge of other UN languages desirable.

Conditions

Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
