Internship in Child Protection and Youth Team in Geneva Headquarters in Switzerland.

Organizational context

The Child Protection and Youth Unit CPYU sets within the Field Protection Service and provides technical support and guidance to field operations across humanitarian and refugee operations through developing policy, guidelines and tools, facilitating learning and development events, coordinate and work with colleagues and partners to enhance the prevention, mitigation and response strategies to protect children of concerns as well as strengthening youth engagement.

The position
We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player, with a strong interest in the protection of children and youth engagement, to complete a six-month internship within UNHCR¿s CPYU. The Inter will gain practical work experience related to the protection of children and youth engagement,  and have the opportunity to practice and develop `professional working skills¿, such as time management, prioritization, management of tasks, team work, presentation skills etc.

Duties and responsibilities
1. Support guidance and tools development:
- Support the CPYU team in finalizing 2018 Guidelines on Assessing and Determining the Best Interests of the Child
- Support the CPYU in editing and reviewing issue briefs, technical guidance and other documents related to child protection and youth.
- Assist with the procurement process of CPYU (ordering, production and printing of documents related to child protection and youth)

2. Desk Research and Advocacy:
- Conduct research on child protection and prepare briefings and background documents as needed.
- Support with the production of advocacy documents including briefings, infographics etc.
- Producing, editing and publishing a series of short videos and other innovative communications materials.

3. Communication and Knowledge Management:
- Support the CPYU team in moderating and regularly updating the Child Protection Community of Practice.
- Manage and regularly update content for the CPYU intranet and internet page.
- Manage and organize CPYU mailbox and disseminate information to the relevant team members.
- Collect contact information, update and manage CP Refugee Coordination directory based on results of online questionnaires and produce regular report.
- Manage Child Protection and Youth Unit sharepoint site and ensure relevant key documents of the unit are shared in relevant site.
- Assist with the organization of meetings and events, and with note-taking and reporting.
- Support the communication and information sharing with refugee youth leaders from Global Youth Advisory Council (GYAC) and Youth Initiative Fund (YIF).
- Gather materials for and produce the CPYU Newsletter.
- Support colleagues in the preparation and delivering of workshops.
- Undertaking of any other task as assigned by the Protection Officer or Senior Adviser.   

4. Event support
- Support for the preparation for the Convention on the Rights of Child (CRC) anniversary in November by conducting research on the history of the BIP and conducting analysis and managing the production of advocacy tools.
- Support for the GYAC¿s participation in the NGO Consultations in June (language support, drafting of talking points, logistics, etc.).
- Support for the GYAC¿s participation in the Global Refugee Forum in December (language support, drafting of talking points, logistics, etc.).

Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required

- Recent graduates (those persons who completed their studies within one year of applying) or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university of higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and
- Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
- Candidates who have immediate relatives (father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister) working as staff members of UNHCR are not eligible.
- Demonstrable interest in child protection, and/or refugee protection.
- Competent user of standard word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Experience in managing online content management platforms.
- Proven experience of research and drafting of documents.
- Demonstrable competencies in media and communications
- Demonstrable competencies in administration, organization and time-management.
- Fluency in English and either French or Spanish is required, Arabic desirable

Conditions
The internship is for six months (with potential extension to maximum 8 months) and the start date is in June 2019. It is a full-time role with working hours starting from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday (40 hours per week). Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to partially help to cover the cost of food, local transportation and living expenses.
