Project Manager (national Position)

Malteser International, the worldwide relief agency of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid, works in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas for people in need, regardless of their religion, origin or political affiliation. Its mission is to provide emergency relief as well as to implement rehabilitation measures and to facilitate the link between emergency relief and sustainable development. Christian values and the humanitarian principles of impartiality and independence form the basis of its work in the following areas: Relief, Reconstruction & Rehabilitation; Health & Nutrition; Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH); Livelihood & Social Programs and Disaster Risk Reduction.


 

Malteser International has been operational in Myanmar since 2001, targeting communicable diseases, providing comprehensive primary health care services, improving the access to safe water and sanitation facilities and enhancing disaster risk reduction capacities.
In Kayin State, Malteser International implements a comprehensive program in the sectors Health, WASH, and peace building as well as relief assistance after disasters. It includes community based basic health care, WASH activities focusing on improved access to safe water and sanitation, and inclusive DRR. 

 
In support of our work in Shan State, Myanmar, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Project Manager (national position).  

As a Project Manager, you are responsible for the management and implementation of the project in line with donor and Malteser International regulations under the overall responsibility of the Program Coordinator. You will facilitate the coordination with the donors (GIZ), other partners and stake holders involved and lead a project team of 11 national employees in the location office Mong Pyin and Mong Khat Townshhip in Shan State. The project starts in 1st June 2019 and continues until end of August 2021.

Responsibilities::

  • Manage timely and effective implementation of projects activities according to defined targets, indicators, approved plans and budget
  • Strengthen mechanisms for appropriate planning, coordination and implementation of project’s activities in close cooperation with the project team in order to meet deadlines
  • Provide input for project planning and evaluation, including conducting assessments, data collection, and surveys
  • Actively participation in planning workshops and meetings, ensuring beneficiary and stakeholder participation in the planning process
  • To elaborate in close coordination and collaboration of the Medical Officer and the team the project monthly report requested by the donor and the internal monthly report, including statistics data, analysis, recommendations and challenges
  • To support the elaboration of the quarterly annual reports by provision of the statistic or relevant information about project’s activities requested by the PC
  • To ensure with the projects support team the sound financial management (review, compliance of budget), administration and logistics (timely preparation, approval and quality control of all procurement) of the projects
  • Actively participate in coordination efforts with other organizations and the government to ensure complementarity, the development of coordinated and common approaches and the reduction of duplication or overlap  

Qualifications:

  • University Graduate, post graduate degree (Medical background) or equivalent in relevant field (e.g. Nutrition, Agriculture, Health Promotion
  • At least 5 years of experience in Management positions in Humanitarian Aid or Development field
  • Interpersonal skills as a leader providing and setting a good example for the team members   to follow
  • Experience in writing activity reports that both describes and analyses progress or lack of such
  • Proven skills in operating computer and common applications like MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Interest and motivation to work in remote areas
  • Language skills: Myanmar, English

Conditions:

  • Start Date: as soon as possible
  • Duty Station: Mong Pyin and Mong Khat Township, Shan State
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience: 14th Month Salary, Location Specific Allowance & Health Insurance
