STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Agriculture/Agronomy, Horticulture, Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Education Range management, and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Experience: 5 or more years in Administrative Support experience with at least 3 years  in comparable and/or relevant position in the public service or private sector or an International Organization.

Language: Excellent written and spoken English

JOB PURPOSE

To perform specialized and/or standardized policy and programme-related processes and activities to support the effective delivery of assistance packages.  

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Regional Bureaux (RBs), Country Offices (COs), Area/Field Offices (AOs/FOs). The job holders typically report to a Programme Policy Officer or the designate.
At this level, job holders are responsible for the completion of a range of specialized and/or standardized processes and activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines and practices. Job holders are able to recommend a course of action to staff at various levels and may allocate tasks to other support staff. They work under minimum supervision, perform basic analyses and compile reports to support information consistency and smooth implementation of programmes/projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Conservation Agriculture (CA) and Post-Harvest Loss Management

  • Support the project leaders and extension staff from the Government and Implementing Partners at district and field level providing technical oversight to smallholders to enhance adoption and practice of Conservation Farmers (CA);
  • In liaison with the project leaders and extension staff from the Government and Implementing Partners, provide training to aggregators and smallholders in Post-Harvest Handling Storage (PHHS) and facilitating access to appropriate hermetic sealed storage solutions;
  • Support the Programme Officer – CA, PHL and climate services review and digitize PHL training materials in collaboration with private sector and implementing partners;
  • Support the Programme Officer – CA, PHL and climate services and Activity 3 Manager to develop capacity needs assessment tools for identifying, assessing and strengthening aggregator performance;
  • At field level in collaboration with implementing partners, build capacity of Agro dealers and establish an efficient private sector led distribution network for PHL equipment.
    • Agro dealers are linked to manufacturers and receive the equipment in a timely manner
    • Smallholder farmers order and pay for post-harvest equipment in a structured manner
    • PHL equipment sales data from suppliers and distributors is collected regularly.
  • Provide technical support to Government (MoA) and partners at field level in backstopping trainings for smallholders in the management of PHLs and appropriate utilization of hermetic storage technologies such as Pandew Improved Crop Storage (PICS) bags;
