The UNDP project at the Ministry of Economy and Trade (MoET) 2017-2019 addresses the key objectives and areas to support the fulfilment of the priorities of the ministry for economic growth, trade enhancement, and internal markets development. It is intended to achieve the predefined objectives by upgrading the Ministry’s economic policy analysis, public services, legislative capacities, and promoting good governance.
The project will support the alignment of national policies with the Global Goals for sustainable development with regard the stimulation of innovation, the reduction of inequalities, the promotion of responsible consumption and the development of new partnerships.
Moreover, the UNDP project at MoET will support the ministry in devising instruments to mitigate the immediate and longer term impact of the Syrian Crisis on the national economy through interventions and high added value policy advice with regard donors’ consultations, coordination mechanisms, programs development and projects design.
In 2017-2019, the project will carry out the implementation of this vision with pre-determined targets and indicative activities.
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNDP Project Manager, the Economic Research Assistant will be responsible for:

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support in research activities on several trade, regulations, economic and public finance issues.
     
  • Support in reviewing studies and reports transmitted to the economic unit; report about their content and the relevant issues that should be addressed.
     
  • Gather information and data that complement the studies and publications produced by the project’s team.
     
  • Assist in developing databases to organize collected data and provide easy access to the unit.
     
  • Support in the development of economic modelling to contribute to the data supporting the different studies and publications on the addressed issues.
     
  • Assist in the preparation of project publications.
     
  • Attend training sessions and use this experience in working on particular files.
     
  • Assist the project team in various public finance, trade, law, SME development and macroeconomic functions performed within the scope of the project.
     
  • Conduct other related tasks as per the request of the Project Manager.

Competencies

  • Good knowledge of economics, current development issues, and  Lebanese regulations
     
  • Ability to apply conceptual models;
     
  • Ability to produce accurate and well documented reports conforming to the required international standards;
     
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work under time constraints;
     
  • Proven team player skills;
     
  • Tested multitasking skills;
     
  • High level of integrity, ethics, and understanding of confidentiality;
     
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
     
  • Excellent writing skills.
     
  • Fluency in word processing, spreadsheets, and internet technology
     

Required Skills and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance, or Business administration or related field.
     
  • Experience: A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferable with a UN Agency and/or the Lebanese Public Administration, and in macroeconomics and financial research. 
     
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in Arabic and English. Knowledge of French is an asset.
     
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office (Power Point, Excel, Word and Visio).
     
  • Nationality: Lebanese
