Organizational Setting
The Office for Corporate Communication (OCC) is responsible for all corporate and internal communication activities of the Organization. It ensures coherence and consistency in FAO’s corporate messaging and communications’ outputs, as well as enables cost-effectiveness in use of communication-related resources across the Organization.
Reporting Lines
The PSAs will report directly to OCC officers in the various branches (OCCM, OCCI, OCCO, OCCP, OCCD), or others.
Tasks and responsibilities
The Graphic Designer will conceptualize, develop and produce creative concepts for communication materials, publications, the web/social media, and social marketing and outreach campaigns, ensuring consistency and continuity throughout the process.
Duties may include, but are not limited to\:
  • Design concepts for the branding and visual identity of communication products/campaigns, according to FAO rules and guidelines, which successfully reflect the Organization’s mission, key themes and core strategies, while appealing to a variety of audiences;
  • Develop visual identities for use in a broad range of corporate materials (including on the web and through social media), such as – but not limited to – the following\:
    • Web banners or info-graphics
    • Corporate social and other digital channels and platforms
    • LED wall
    • Videos, animations and design of mobile applications
    • Other formats for media
    • PowerPoint templates
    • Event collateral such as posters, banners and roll-ups
    • Letterheads (design for electronic use)
    • Folders
    • Publications (books, pamphlets, booklets, leaflets, etc)
    • Other graphics as needed
  • Support the production of publications to develop graphic identities coherent with the FAO Publications Policy, ensuring publishing in all official languages;
  • Collaborate with internal FAO offices regarding editing, proofreading and printing of publications and, where required, source appropriate external suppliers;
  • Safeguard and ensure that all communication products (brochure, banners, poster, gadgets, other materials) are produced in line with FAO corporate branding, logo and other relevant guidelines;
  • Work with teams to create and organize multimedia presentations and communication products;
  • Ensure consistency and continuity with visual identities in all materials;
  • Perform other duties as required.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
  • University degree/specialized diploma in Graphic Design, Service Design, Communication, Marketing or a related subject;
  • 1 year (Category C) or 5 years (Category B) of relevant experience in graphic design for copy, print and online media, web and motion design
  • Working knowledge of one of FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian or Spanish)

Selection Criteria

  • Extent and relevance of experience in the field of graphic design services for prominent organizations, particularly at the international level
  • Extent and relevance of experience in developing high-quality communication/multimedia materials for a wide variety of audiences
  • Extent and relevance of experience in developing creative solutions in a variety of campaigns, across a broad range of products and media including advertising, print, video/broadcast, interactive, web and social networking
  • Extent and relevance of experience with intercultural concepts and multilingual materials for global campaigns or large events, and innovative design for web and social media;
  • Experience with a variety of graphic software in considered a strong asset;
  • Understanding of FAO policies and programmes is considered a strong asset
  • Experience in graphic design within the UN system is desirable.
