Organizational Setting
For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.
Reporting Lines
The National Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Specialist will be under the overall guidance of the FAO Representative in the Philippines, and the direct supervision of the Assistant FAO Representative – Programme.

Technical Focus
FAO has been implementing with relevant government partners, various projects on forestry and natural resources. The Biodiversity, Environment and Natural Resources Specialist will provide project management support and technical inputs and strategic direction for expansion of portfolio and resource mobilization.
Tasks and responsibilities
1. Expand the current FAO portfolio by providing technical support to the FAO programme team in the formulation of concept notes and detailed project proposals related to agriculture, biodiversity, forestry, environment and natural resources (including related regional initiatives), including proactive identification of opportunities for resource mobilization and expansion of partnerships;
2. Provide backstopping support in the implementation, supervision and monitoring of projects on agriculture, biodiversity, forestry, environment and natural resources, among others;
3. Review technical documents, reports and relevant data related to support to project development; requirements for project cycle management, and technical clearances;
4. Facilitate, coordinate and participate in relevant technical and sectoral workshops, meetings, consultations and other events organized by other UN agencies, Government, donors and civil societies related to the thematic areas of agriculture, biodiversity, forestry, environment and natural resources, among others;
5. Ensure representation and visibility of FAO in relevant priority areas where it has comparative advantage through establishing close coordination with the identified focal person(s) and line agencies including among others the Department of Agriculture (DA) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR);
6. Coordinate with the relevant technical divisions in FAO Headquarters and the Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific in Bangkok regarding comments and recommendations on various proposals for possible FAO assistance;
7. Prepare project briefers and other technical documents concerning biodiversity, forestry, environment and natural resources, among others;
8. Carry out any other relevant duties within his/her technical competence as may be requested by FAO Representative.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• National of Philippines;
• University degree (Master degree preferred) in agriculture, biodiversity, environment and natural resources or other related courses;
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in designing and managing training and/or programmes in support of natural resources management.
• Working knowledge (Level C) of English
