Job Description

IRC will be opening an office in Sweden – IRC Sverige in October 2019.

We are looking for a Digital Communications Manager to lead on increasing brand awareness with our target audience in Sweden. The role which reports to the Executive Director for IRC Svergie, will achieve this will achieve this by ensuring the IRC’s work and views are distributed via digital channels, and by championing and protecting our brand. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive experience of digital communications including strategy formulation ideally within the fundraising sector. An ability to build strong relationships across a complex stakeholder map and excellent diplomatic and negotiation skills are essential, alongside a clear passion and commitment to the mission and values of the IRC

SCOPE OF WORK

In order to raise the profile of the IRC in Sweden, we are looking for a Digital Communications Manager for our new office – IRC Sverige - based in Stockholm.

The role leads on increasing brand awareness with our target audience in Sweden, which is essential to achieving our fundraising goals. The role will achieve this by ensuring the IRC’s work and views are distributed via digital channels, and by championing and protecting our brand.

The post of Digital Communications Manager reports to the Executive Director at IRC Sverige but will work very closely with the Head of Digital Communications (Europe) and with the Digital Teams in London, Berlin and New York, as well as Fundraising colleagues.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and performance (25%)

  • Create and implement a strategy to grow the IRC’s digital presence in Sweden from the ground up, with the support of a global brand and the Head of Digital Communications, Europe.
  • Lead on analytics for IRC Sverige's digital channels, in line with global digital metrics. In liaison with the Europe digital team, develop and implement SEO strategies and use Google Analytics monitor and refine approaches to drive up IRC Sverige’s levels of digital engagement
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the sector, our sister organisations, our online audiences and the type of content that drives conversions
  • Contribute to the broader growth of the IRC’s communications in Sweden, liaising for example with media colleagues to determine audience targeting and messaging
  • Manage the IRC Sverige digital communications budget

Digital channels (30%)

  • Proactively run IRC Sverige’s social media profiles to grow the Swedish supporter base and deepen their loyalty to the IRC. Lead on the management of the organic/unpaid social and work closely with the Digital Fundraising Manager on paid advertising and audience building
  • Set up and manage new social media channels based on our audience and organisational needs
  • Lead on the management of the IRC Sverige website (to launch in Sept 2019). Work closely with the IRC Europe’s in-house development team on new features for the site and data analysis

Creative content (30%)

  • In liaison with IRC Europe's digital content team and external suppliers, produce and adapt compelling and cutting-edge visual and graphic content for IRC Sverige’s website and social media channels, including video, images, infographics
  • Take a data-driven approach to “localising” global content for use in Sweden, and lead on creating new content for the Swedish market

Brand consistency (15%)

  • Ensure all Swedish language content (digital and print) is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone of voice
  • As brand lead for IRC Sverige, conduct brand onboarding sessions and training sessions for colleagues as needed
  • Collaborate with the Digital Fundraising Manager to ensure video ads are on brand and adhere to creative best practices

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent relevant experience in communications or marketing
  • Experience of analysing digital campaigns and the ability to use Google Analytics and understand Search Engine Optimisation, including keyword research and its application to SEO, and a clear understanding of how Google’s algorithm ranks pages
  • Experience of reporting on and conducting analysis of digital engagement, and optimising content/tactics for conversion
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines to deliver high quality content
  • Excellent Swedish and English language skills
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills; adept at writing clean, engaging, jargon-free copy for a range of channels
  • Excellent creative ability with proven experience in design and video editing. Adept at using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and Adobe Premier Pro
  • Self-starter with the ability to make a success of new initiatives and work without close instruction in Sweden, while collaborating with colleagues elsewhere in Europe
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues in the Sweden, the UK and overseas
  • Strong ability to think creatively and produce innovative content
  • Good organisational and time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines, prioritise and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility as regards working hours, including sometimes working to tight deadlines

Desirable

  • Knowledge of key debates in Sweden and Europe on international development and humanitarian issues
  • Experience of working with a creative agency and/or charitable organisation in a similar role
  • Experience of liaising with external suppliers to agree price, timeframes and deadlines
  • Experience using Drupal
  • Experience of digital fundraising and email marketing
  • Experience of print design
