Lab Technician (National Position)

Malteser International, the worldwide relief agency of the Order of Malta for humanitarian aid, works in more than 20 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas for people in need, regardless of their religion, origin or political affiliation. Malteser International is working in Myanmar since 2001 and currently employs more than 350 national staff in Rakhine, Shan and Kayin states. Our work aims at ensuring communities have access to primary health care services. We also offer comprehensive WASH and disaster risk reduction/climate change adaptation solutions, and provide relief after disasters. We strive to enable and empower the most vulnerable communities in marginalized areas through a participatory and sustainable approach.

 
In support of our work in Shan State, Myanmar, Malteser International is looking for a motivated Lab Technician (National position).

As a Lab Technician, you will be responsible to manage all day-to-day Health transactions of the Programs/projects to ensure effective program implementation within MI Health policies and procedures and donor requirements. In addition, you will assist the HIV Manager in providing efficient Health management for improved ministry quality and achievement of overall organizational objective.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct advanced tests for diagnosis of syphilis, HIV other STIs diseases, CD4 and Biochemistry tests and viral load test if needed
  • Management of Laboratory premises and equipment (reagent stocks, disposal of specimen and laboratory waste, maintenance of laboratory equipment)
  • Close collaboration with clinical staff and HIV Manager to ensure optimal coordination between laboratory investigations and clinical services
  • Responsible for housekeeping, maintaining the laboratory and all equipment’s and gadgets in working order
  • Maintain laboratory activity data and reporting systems and provide regular reports to the HIV Team Leader
  • Ensure sensible health and safety procedures are followed, including the use of appropriate protective clothing and materials, safe handling of specimens and safe disposals of specimens and laboratory waste

Qualifications:

  • Qualified laboratory technician with previous work experience (minimum 2 years) in public health, preferably in HIV / AIDS and STIs clinics
  • Ability to ensure supportive supervision, data collection and reporting
  • Good communication skills and ability to facilitate training;
  • Ability to live and work under demanding work environments with minimum available basic facilities
  • Team leader capacities and strong communication skills
  • Previous experience with a humanitarian organization (INGOs) in the region

Conditions:

  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Duty Station: Kyaing Tong Township, Shan State, Myanmar
  • Duration of contract: 1 year (extendable) due to donor approval
  • Salary according to qualification and experience: 14th Month Salary & Health Insurance
