Selection of staff is made on a competitive basis, and we are committed to promoting diversity and gender balance.

ABOUT WFP

The United Nations World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide.  The mission of WFP is to help the world achieve Zero Hunger in our lifetimes.  Every day, WFP works worldwide to ensure that no child goes to bed hungry and that the poorest and most vulnerable, particularly women and children, can access the nutritious food they need.

ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

WFP launched its operations in Armenia in 1993, providing food relief for refugees and internally displaced persons in the aftermath of independence. Since then, WFP has expanded operations, focusing on improving food security among vulnerable populations in rural areas and optimizing the country’s school meals programme.

The WFP School Feeding Project in Armenia began in 2010 providing school meals in the most food insecure areas, gradually increasing the coverage throughout all provinces in Armenia to support the Government in mitigating the severe economic and social impacts of the global financial crisis. During 2015-2018, WFP handed over the programme in five provinces to the Government of Armenia. Currently, the WFP-administered programme provides hot school meals to 60,000 primary schoolchildren in five provinces. With the implementation of the School Meals Programme, WFP aims to support the food security for primary school children, provide a safety net for their families and address Armenia’s nutritional concerns. WFP's approach includes two perspectives - implementation of the School Meals Programme and capacity development of the Government of Armenia to take over the National School Meals Programme covering all ten provinces.
