This requisition is for employment at the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)/Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO)
The Communicable Diseases and Environmental Determinants of Heath Department (CDE) promotes, coordinates, and implements technical cooperation activities directed toward the surveillance, prevention, control, and elimination of communicable diseases and zoonosis that are technically sound and appropriate for the political and sociocultural context in which they are implemented. It strives to achieve a sustainable impact on health by providing normative guidance, furthering the implementation of evidence-based interventions, and fostering alliances that strengthen country capacity, improve the effectiveness of inter-country collaboration, and facilitate policy and decision-making processes through improved health information coverage, analysis and quality at all levels.
Under the general supervision of the Director, Communicable Diseases and Environmental Determinants of Heath Department (CDE), and the direct supervision of the Unit Chief, Neglected, Tropical and Vector Borne Diseases (CDE/VT), the incumbent is responsible for, but not necessarily limited to, the following assigned duties\:
- Provide technical and programmatic support for the implementation of the Regional Strategy on the Prevention and Control of Arboviral Diseases;
- Provide Regional and country level support, as required, for development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of related national arbovirus prevention and control strategies and activities;
- Coordinate and support activities for the strengthening of national capacities on clinical diagnosis and management of patients with dengue and other arboviral diseases; support the implementation of the second edition of Dengue\: guidelines for patient care in the Region of the Americas and other clinical tools;
- Collaborate in the development and publication of the first edition of the âarboviral diseases guidelines for patient care in the region of the Americasâ, and the subsequent process of implementation in the countries;
- Contribute to the strengthening of national dengue and other arboviral surveillance systems, regional databases and reporting of data in compliance with PAHO Resolutions;
- Provide technical guidance and support for resources development for the implementation of the Regional Integrated Management Strategy for the Prevention and Control of Arboviral diseases;
- Collaborate in the review, compilation and preparation of progress reports, situation analyses, evaluation tools and other strategic documents to support national and regional activities within the framework of PAHO Resolutions and agreements;
- Collaborate on the development and strengthening of the research agenda for key components of the Regional Integrated Management Strategy for the Prevention and Control of arboviral diseases;
- Perform other related duties, as assigned.
Essential\: A university degree in medicine or a health science from a recognized institution.
Desirable\: Specialization in communicable diseases, epidemiology, or related field, would be an asset.

Essential\: Seven years of combined national and international experience working in epidemiology, disease prevention and control programs and/or the administration of health services related to communicable diseases.
Desirable\: Experience working in dengue control and prevention in the Americas would be an asset.

Very good knowledge of English or Spanish with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of French and/or Portuguese would be an asset.
Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer and utilize software programs such as Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Outlook. Other IT skills and knowledge of other software programs such as SPSS, Epi-lnfo, Tableau, and Project would be an asset.
US$2,389.24 This amount is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
