Are you a skilled storyteller with a passion for helping people in crisis? We have an exciting opportunity to join our media team as a Media Relations Officer in the South West of England. You will use stories and your knowledge of and contacts in the media to engage and inspire our supporters - showing how small acts of kindness have a big impact on how people cope with and recover from crisis.

What you will be doing
The Media Officer post is responsible for profiling the organisation's work within the South West to local, regional and national media, working closely with the national media team to contribute to big news moments and PR campaigns.

This is a front-line role that makes a vital contribution to the public positioning of the British Red Cross.

About the team
The role of Media Officer sits within the communications and advocacy directorate which tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people's lives - so that both externally and internally people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis.

About the person

  • An understanding of how media fits into strategic, integrated, communications plans.
  • An understanding of digital media and how social media is affecting the news environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • A people-person who uses their initiative and curiosity to get out and about to find our best stories, and work with colleagues in a dispersed team to share insight, learning and understanding.
