The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri and Monguno of Borno state and Damatru of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, economic recovery and development.

Job Overview/Summary:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Nigeria through the Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) sector is implementing an agriculture project in Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria. The Livelihoods Assistant will support Livelihoods Officer in facilitating trainings on agribusiness and business skills, conduct monitoring visits to collect data on VSLA, FFS, monthly income and revenue. Support in market strengthening through engagement with agro dealers.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Support in facilitating training in agribusiness and business skills
  • Assist the Livelihoods Officer in conducting trainings, preparation of training modules for training especially for agribusiness and market strengthening.
  • Conduct frequent site visits to facilitate trainings, monitor adoption of practices, and collect data from farmers
  • Document field achievements, innovations, failures, and lessons learned to integrate into project activities
  • Support the preparation of project reports on livelihoods and agriculture activities
  • Perform other activities as may be assigned from time to time by the supervisor or ERD team

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Agricultural economics,

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in providing technical supports on livelihoods and agriculture production
  • Experience working with INGO/NGO in Adamawa state

Demonstrated Technical Skills:

  • Technical skills in agriculture and rural livelihoods programming
  • Strong training and facilitation skills
  • Experience in community and stakeholders relationship building and management .

Languages:

  • Fluency in English Language both written and spoken is required and Hausa language is mandatory

Computer/Other Tech Requirements:

  • Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Working Environment:

  • The position will be based in Mubi, Adamawa State. The security situation in Mubi is relatively stable with periodic tensions. All IRC offices are provided with internet facilities and there is reliable mobile telecommunication network in Adamawa.
