Job Description

Contextual background The IRC has been present in Nigeria since 2012 when the organization responded to flooding in Kogi state. In February 2014 the IRC moved into Adamawa State in NE Nigeria to provide humanitarian interventions through a multi-sectoral, integrated approach for conflict affected populations. IRC Nigeria now operates a country office in Abuja and field offices in Mubi and Yola of Adamawa State, Maiduguri, Gwoza and Monguno of Borno state and Damatru of Yobe State. Currently, IRC Nigeria implements programs primary health care, nutrition, environmental health, women’s protection and empowerment, protection, child protection, education, food security & livelihoods Job Overview/Summary The WPE Community Mobilization Assistant will be focal in the awareness raising component of IRC WPE programming. This component aims to facilitate a change in attitudes and behaviors that condone and perpetuate Gender-Based Violence: this involves encouraging men and women to reflectively examine gender roles and inequalities in order to support a safer environment for women and girls, and to facilitate gender-inclusive development in the community.S/he will work with communities to develop and implement plans to improve the safety and security for women and girls in the community. S/he will collaborate and coordinate with other partners to facilitate an effective multi-sectoral approach to addressing protection concerns, that basically affect women and girls Major Responsibilities Program Management, Technical Quality, and Strategy Outreach, information dissemination and community mobilization PLANNING, COLLABORATION AND COORDINATION REPORTING and MONITORING FINANCIAL Other duties and responsibilities Key Working Relationships Key External Contacts: Community members, school teachers and other NGOs staff
Qualifications
Minimum of NCE certificate in community development or related field preferred. University degree in similar fields would be an added advantage Work Experience: Community outreach and mobilization experience, including experience working with women, girls as well as community stockholders is preferred Demonstrated Technical Skills: Demonstrated Managerial/Leadership Competencies: Languages: Ability to communicate in English, Hausa and or local dialects spoken in the location Computer/Other Tech Requirements: Full professional competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint, is an advantage Ability to Travel: 5% of time if applicable Standards of Professional Conduct: The IRC and IRC workers must adhere to the values and principles outlined in the IRC Way – Code of Conduct.
