ICMP’s Colombia Program

In the aftermath of half a century of conflict, Colombia faces a legacy of more than 85,000 cases of missing and disappeared persons. The inclusion of this issue in the Final Peace Agreement signed in November 2016, provides an exceptional opportunity to advance efforts to account for missing persons and to secure the rights of victims.

ICMP is mandated under the Peace Agreement to assist this process. It has identified the most important challenges and will support the Search Unit, families of the missing, civil society organizations and parties to the Peace Agreement in their efforts towards long-term peace and reconciliation. ICMP will work closely with its international and Colombian partners to make a positive and practical contribution to this process.

Position profile

Reporting to the Head of Program, and working closely with the Head of Communications (HQ), the Communications Officer duties and responsibilities will include the following:

  • Creating program-specific publications, contributing to the development of innovative public outreach campaigns and supporting events in line with the global ICMP Communications Strategy and work plan
  • Contributing to the production of a range of program specific materials, including newsletters, press releases, media advisories, brochures, and flyers
  • Managing social media
  • Contributing to daily media monitoring on missing persons issues in the Spanish-speaking world
  • Drafting and editing in both English and Spanish
  • Other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Education related to Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or similar. Post secondary education is desirable
  • At least six years of related experience working on communications at an international organization, or similar
  • Experience in creating, planning and implementing media and outreach campaigns in Colombia
  • Proven experience in writing and proofreading documents such as press releases, promotional materials, proposals and reports
  • Excellent writing and public speaking skills
  • Excellent knowledge of media monitoring/media database management tools such as Meltwater
  • Excellent skills in social media management tools such as Hootsuite, Buffer
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud and Photography is an asset
  • Graphic designs experience is highly desirable
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to meet deadlines and produce positive results
Additional information
  • Legally entitled to work in Colombia
  • Professional fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish
  • Ability to interact positively with colleagues regardless of culture, nationality, religion or gender
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Willingness to travel and to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings
  • Capacity and willingness to work in sometimes challenging circumstances and under hardship living conditions

Benefits

In addition to an attractive base salary, this position is eligible for up to 8 weeks of paid time off each year and generous social security insurances. This position is at the LES 6 level on the ICMP Colombia salary scale. This position is not eligible for relocation or expatriate allowances. For more details, please see the ICMP website.
