Regional Nutrition Advisor (m/f)

in Bamako

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until 31 May 2020. The place of work will be Bamako, Mali (ML). Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

As Regional Nutrition Advisor you will be part of the global SFNS/Nutrition team within the process "Programming Towards Improved Nutrition". You will assist country teams in West & Central Africa by ensuring service-oriented program and project support through capacity building, consultancy services and backstopping regarding nutrition related subject matters, methods and instruments. Your area of responsibilty includes the development, promotion and maintenance of subject specific guidelines and minimum requirements for programs and projects in the region WCA. Another aim of the position is to ensure sector-specific knowledge, innovation and good practice management in order to promote high project and program quality.

Your responsibilities

  • Jointly develop and update WHH’s sector strategy and positioning in line with WHH’s overall strategy
  • Enhance WHH positioning on sector level and support WHH positioning on country level: Support the operationalization of WHH’s nutrition strategy (in- country support of country/ project offices)
  • Provide technical assistance to WHH’s country programs in West & Central Africa and the Caribbean for the development of regional and country specific strategies and program planning which improve impact on nutrition
  • Support the conceptual and strategic development of programs towards improved nutrition (promotion, development and maintenance of subject specific guidelines and minimum requirements for WHH’s programs and projects with a focus on the prevention of all forms of malnutrition)
  • Facilitate and support capacity development for country and project offices: Organize workshops and trainings to build staff knowledge and capacity on nutrition within WHH country teams in the region
  • Presentation of Welthungerhilfe´s work and own sector relevant experiences to private donors, supporters and members of Welthungerhilfe

Your profile

  • A relevant Masters degree (MSc) in Nutrition/Public Health in developing countries
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working in nutrition programs in developing countries
  • Field experience in the prevention of malnutrition and a strong understanding of nutrition sensitive programming
  • Broad knowledge of regional food and nutrition habits, including the social and cultural background
  • Familiar with methodologies for conducting a contextual analysis or scoping assessment on nutrition and nutrition surveys (SMART, KAP)
  • Excellent inter-personal, communication and facilitation skills
  • Skills in training and mentoring
  • Ability to work within multi-cultural teams
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in French (working language) and English
