Org. Setting and Reporting

These positions are located in the Central Africa Sub-regional Office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA/SRO-CA) Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Responsibilities

Under the general guidance of the Chief of the "Economic Diversification Policy and Reforms Section" and/or the Chief of the "Sub-regional Initiatives Section" and the direct supervision of a relevant responsible officer, the intern will make an important contribution to the work of the Section. Activities change according to the needs of the section, but typical tasks include the following:

• Contribute to economic analysis and research and identify key medium- and short-term risks relevant for macroeconomic policy formulation in Central Africa;
• conduct econometric and statistical analyses and prepare summary tables, graphs, and other inputs, as needed, for publications such as the STEPS profiles, working papers and policy briefs;
• Conduct research on economic diversification, industrialization, trade and, regional integration in Central African countries;
• Assist in the preparation of studies on progress in the SDGs in Central African countries;
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

As stipulated on section 3 of the ST/AI/2014/1, the eligibility for internship is as follows:

Section 3 : Eligibility

3.1. Applicants to the United Nations internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent);
(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in 3.1 (A) and (b) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation, as provided for in section 11.4 of the present instruction.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in either English or French (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of the other is desirable.

Special Notice

The internship is for three (3) months with an opportunity for extension, depending on the needs of the Director. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.
