Organisational Context

Specialized units within Investigation Division support the integrated teams in the elaboration and implementation of their plans and through advice and assistance, in the conduct of operations. The Gender and Children Unit (GCU) which is situated within the Planning and Operations Section of ID, amongst other things, assists the teams with the handling of vulnerable witnesses, and with the investigation of sexual and gender-based crimes and crimes against and affecting children.

Scope of Services

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) is seeking to extend the existing roster maintained by GCU of experienced psychologists and psychiatrists, (on an ad hoc and short-term basis), to conduct psycho-social assessments of potential witnesses the OTP would like to interview as part of the investigations into crimes which fall under the jurisdiction of the Court.

The Psycho-Social Adviser, under the supervision of the Victims Expert, will be expected to provide psychological support to investigation teams during field missions:

  • Conduct psychological assessments, in particular on vulnerable witnesses such as victims of gender based violence, children, and traumatized persons in support of investigative interviews and statement taking;
  • Prepare reports of assessments;
  • Assist the integrated team in providing psychological assessment of witnesses in preparation to trials when required.

Required Qualifications

The Psycho-Social Adviser should hold an advanced university degree in the field of Clinical/Forensic Psychology, Clinical Counselling or Psycho social studies or other related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree;

Post graduate studies in psychological trauma, especially on children and victims of sexual violence would be considered an asset.

The successful candidates should have a minimum of two years (four years with a first level university degree) professional experience in dealing with vulnerable groups, such as victims of sexual violence and traumatized children. Field experience and experience working with the traumatized persons or conflict affected communities are required.

Knowledge of Languages:

Proficiency in one of the working languages of the Court, English or French is required. Working knowledge of the other is considered a strong asset.

Knowledge of a local language of the country of situation would be considered as strong asset.
