OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

In line with the global malaria technical strategy, regional malaria action plan, and the sustainable development goals ( target 3.3 ), the unit for Malaria Control and Elimination (MCE) in EMRO is aimed at to support member states to achieve the agreed upon goals and targets related to burden reduction and elimination of malaria in the region by 2020, to \:O reduce the incidence of malaria by more than 40% and mortality rates by more than 75% compared to 2015.O interrupt malaria transmission in 25% of endemic districts with incidence of less than 1 case per 1000.O eliminate falciparum malaria from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi ArabiaO prevent re-establishment of malaria transmission in countries/areas that have eliminated malaria.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1) Lead collection and analysis of data and all relevant information as part of Regional and Global surveillance and monitor implementation of malaria elimination activities in the Region 2) Provide technical guidance to member states in programme reviews, impact assessments and developing strategies for malaria and other Vector- Borne Diseases3) Oversee the strengthening of malaria/disease surveillance and monitoring & evaluation systems including implementation of integrated District Health Information System 2 (DHIS2) in priority countries; 4) Provide technical expertise for member states for adopting and developing surveillance guidelines, protocols, tools and standard operating procedures (SoPs) for malaria elimination; 5) Organize and strengthen capacity building activities for malaria surveillance, M&E and malaria elimination;6) Develop project proposals for resource mobilization for malaria elimination; 7) Provide technical expertise to member states and stakeholders to develop and implement research; proposals on various aspects of malaria elimination in coordination with responsible units in EMRO and HQ

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential\: University degree in Medicine and Master's degree in epidemiology, public health or tropical diseases
Desirable\: Specific trainings in the field malaria and other tropical diseases

Experience

Essential\: At least 7 years of experience at the national and international levels in the field of epidemiology, control of malaria
Desirable\: Experience of work in the malaria elimination settings

Skills

Excellent knowledge of epidemiology, disease/malaria surveillance and malaria elimination;

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 71,332 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1361 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
