Context:

The International Organization for Migration Office to the United Nations (IOM Office to the UN) is responsible for coordinating and strengthening IOM’s relations with the wide United Nations system, diplomatic missions, multi-lateral bodies, non-governmental organizations, civil society, and the media in New York. The Office leads and contributes to improving the understanding of international migration issues, facilitating international policy dialogues on migration and representing IOM in conferences, meetings and seminars at United Nations Head Quarters in New York.

IOM Office to the UN promotes awareness and understanding of IOM’s institutional positions on key international migration policy issues to relevant governmental, UN and NGO stakeholders, in accordance with IOM’s mandate and constitution, the IOM Strategy adopted in 2007 and relevant Council resolutions. IOM Office to the UN is also responsible for working closely with the Office of the Director General (ODG) and relevant IOM Head Quarter Departments to formulate policy strategies and plans of action and to provide programmatic and administrative support.

Under the overall supervision of the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Office of the Director and IOM’s UN Office engagement with UN coordination bodies, Member States, inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations, multi-lateral bodies and civil society.

Page 1 / 4Core Functions / Responsibilities:

1. Support IOM’s engagement in key inter-governmental and inter-agency processes to well position IOM and migration issues within the UN coordination bodies. 2. Assist the Director of IOM Office to the UN in developing and maintaining contacts and networks with relevant UN Member States, UN agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to support information sharing and collaboration on the coordination bodies. 3. Prepare note for the files (NFFs) to provide regular feedback and guidance to IOM colleagues in Headquarters, regional and country offices on all issues pertaining the implementation of the IOM-UN Agreement SIGNED ON 19 September 2016.

4. Provide inputs for IOM to prepare the overarching strategy for the integration of IOM into the UN System while preserving IOM’s responsiveness, efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and independence.

5. Support IOM Office to the UN (NY) coordination with Member States and UN partners on migration-related issues, including by identifying speakers for side events, preparing background papers and summaries.

6. Prepare statements and interventions as well as written summaries, and talking points as agreed in each case;

7. Identify, develop, coordinate, and submit to the UN Secretariat IOM's inputs for related reports and resolutions, where appropriate;

8. Support IOM Office to the UN (NY) at UN meetings of interest (General Assembly, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), interagency sessions, informal consultations among UN Member States, various Commissions);

9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

• Master’s degree in in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience. Experience

• Experience in the field of migration and migration policy issues, and management; • In-depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization and of IOM’s history, mandate and institutional culture; • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, other national/ international institutions and NGOs;

• Creative thinking, efficiency, objectivity;

• Knowledge and experience of regional issues.
