About this position
We are looking for a strategic, independent, and collaborative Compliance Officer. As Compliance Officer, you will support the management of non-financial risks such as integrity, AML/CFT, operational conflicts of interest, and related compliance matters, while serving as a strategic partner to business teams and championing sound risk management.
Our Legal Department advises Management, the Board of Executive Directors, and the Board of Governors on all legal mattersrelating to IDB Invest. As part of its functions, the Legal Department provides full legal support to Non-Sovereign Guaranteed(NSG) operations throughout the entire transaction cycle, including origination, portfolio management, workouts, and thedevelopment of new products. Also, we provide legal advice on all institutional and financial matters for IDB Invest, includinggovernance, financial management, institutional integrity, and administration of human resources.
You will work in the Compliance function (GCL/ICL Compliance), part of the Legal Department (GCL). This team is responsible for providing advice and compliance oversight in relation to non-financial risks related to investments, advisory work, and corporate functions, including integrity, ethics and reputational risks, operational conflicts of interest, AML/CFT and economic sanctions, nominee directorships, and material non-public information.
What you’ll do
- Advise on the identification, management, and mitigation of operational conflicts of interest in investment and advisory operations.
- Support KYC requests from counterparties and assist in the design and execution of AML/CFT program controls, including reviews of economic sanctions matters.
- Conduct integrity due diligence and provide support on anti-corruption laws, regulations, and related compliance programs.
- Advise on nominee directorships in coordination with business teams and the Corporate Governance Officer.
- Apply sound judgment and a practical approach to address IDB Invest’s non-financial risk profile.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and guidelines to prevent, detect, assess, and mitigate compliance risks.
- Support implementation of compliance processes and controls in IDB Invest systems, including business requirements, testing, and coordination with internal teams.
- Develop and deliver training programs, outreach initiatives, and internal knowledge-sharing resources for personnel and Management.
- Liaise with other IDB Group entities, other multilateral development banks, and external stakeholders on substantive compliance matters.
- Monitor global initiatives and private sector developments to benchmark compliance approaches against international best practices.
What you'll need
- Education: Master's degree (Juris Doctor, LL.M., or equivalent degree) from an accredited university. Candidates with other advanced degrees at the master’s level, such as an MBA, may also be considered if they demonstrate relevant compliance experience in financial services.
- Experience: At least 4 years of experience, strongly preferred between 5 to 10 years of relevant experience, with a strong background in international business and finance transactions, gained at a well-recognized law firm, regulated financial institution, or international financial institution. The ideal candidate will have advised on one or more of the following: anti-corruption, economic sanctions, AML/CFT, regulatory compliance, international business transactions, or litigation.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required, with Spanish preferred.
- Strong personal integrity and commitment to ethical conduct and professional values.
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment, including knowing when to escalate, while maintaining strong working relationships.
- Excellent writing skills, experience delivering engaging workshops and training, familiarity with integrity and AML/CFT standards, data analytics and reporting skills, and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Apps. Please note that for this position, the final candidates will be required to successfully pass a background check to the satisfaction of the IDB Group, as a pre-employment condition, which will be conducted by third-parties.

- Citizenship: You are either a citizen of the corresponding post of duty or with residency or legal permit to work in the corresponding post of duty.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
Type of contract and duration
- Staff: National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
