Duties and Responsibilities
Created in December 1999, the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) is the designated focal point in the United Nations system for the coordination of efforts to reduce disasters and to ensure synergies among the disaster reduction activities of the United Nations and regional organizations and activities in both developed and less developed countries. Led by the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction (SRSG), UNDRR has over 150 staff located in its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and in regional offices. Specifically, UNDRR guides, monitors, analyses and reports on progress in the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030, supports regional and national implementation of the Framework and catalyses action and increases global awareness to reduce disaster risk working with U.N. Member States and a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including civil society, the private sector, parliamentarians and the science and technology community. The Individual Contractor will be home based and will report to the Head, UNDRR Campaigns & Outreach, Geneva. Within delegated authority, the Digital Content Producer is responsible for: 1. Strategy implementation: Implement the content strategy; maintain and develop UNDRR’s presence on Twitter/X, Facebook, LinkedIn (and other relevant platforms); design and implement social media campaigns on anticipatory action, climate action, gender and disability inclusion, tsunami awareness, and Early Warnings for All; identify priority issues, opportunities and major events for social media coverage; propose new ways to engage and position UNDRR on appropriate channels. 2. Channel management: Develop and maintain the social media content calendar; write, select, edit, post, update and maintain content on official platforms; monitor feedback and respond with accurate information. 3. Content creation: Identify and help select content for social distribution; produce or oversee production of multimedia content (videos, animated GIFs, etc.), boosting digital accessibility. 4. Editorial support and copywriting: provide editorial support for a variety of UNDRR's written products, including reports, webstories, press releases and promotional material. 5. Regional coordination: Provide guidance to regional offices on institutional social media and digital content production; identify relevant regional content for HQ channels; support regional content production with SOPs and templates. 6. Analytics and reporting: Collect and analyze data to identify trends and provide insights via graphs, charts, tables and reports to enable data driven planning and decision making; monitor accounts and prepare analytical reports to ensure outreach, engagement and growth.
Qualifications/special skills
An Advanced university degree in public information, disaster risk management, international relations, journalism, political studies or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 5 years experience using graphic and video editing software is required. Experience with Teams, SharePoint and Drupal is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this position, fluency in English is required.
