Organizational Setting

FAO Sierra Leone, in collaboration with UNICEF, WFP, and WHO, is implementing a Joint United Nations Nutrition Programme (UNN) aimed at strengthening climate resilience, food and nutrition security, and livelihoods in Sierra Leone.

The programme contributes to the Feed Salone Strategy and UNSDCF outcomes and targets vulnerable populations, including women, youth, and smallholder farmers in food insecure districts.

To support implementation of programme monitoring and evidence generation activities, FAO seeks technical support for baseline and yield study-related analytical and data management activities under the Joint Programme.

The assignment will support preparation, organization, compilation, and analysis of baseline and yield-related information under the close technical supervision of FAO technical teams.


Reporting Lines

The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative (FAOR), and the technical supervision of the FAO M&E Expert and the Assistant FAOR (Programme), in close coordination with the FAO Irish Aid Project Technical Coordinator.

Technical Focus

The incumbent will provide technical and analytical support related to:
• baseline assessments,
• yield study data collection and analysis,
• statistical and GIS-related support activities,
• organization and compilation of monitoring data,
• preparation of technical documentation and analytical reports.


Tasks and responsibilities

The incumbent will provide technical and analytical support under close supervision and will not independently represent FAO, undertake institutional decision-making functions, independently coordinate stakeholders, or independently lead consultative processes.

Baseline Assessment Technical Support

• Conduct desk reviews of relevant programme and assessment documentation.
• Support compilation and organization of baseline-related secondary data and information.
• Assist in preparation of baseline study methodologies, templates, and technical documentation under guidance of FAO technical teams.
• Support organization of quantitative and qualitative data collection activities.

Data Collection and Data Management Support

• Support preparation and configuration of digital data collection tools using platforms such as: KoBo Collect, ODK, or similar systems.
• Assist in organizing and supporting training sessions for data collectors under supervision of FAO technical teams.
• Support monitoring of data quality, completeness, and consistency during field data collection.
• Assist in data cleaning, organization, validation, and storage processes.

Statistical and Analytical Support

• Support compilation and analysis of quantitative and qualitative data using statistical software such as: SPSS, STATA, R, or related analytical tools.
• Assist in preparation of sex-disaggregated datasets and analytical tables.
• Support generation of summary statistics, charts, and analytical outputs for reporting purposes.
• Assist in documenting baseline and yield study findings.

GIS and Mapping Support

• Support compilation of GPS coordinates and field location data related to intervention sites.
• Assist in preparation of GIS-related datasets and maps under supervision of FAO technical teams.
• Support organization of geospatial information related to project intervention areas.

Documentation and Reporting Support

• Support preparation of technical summaries, baseline data tables, analytical notes, draft reporting materials, technical inputs to the baseline report.
• Assist in compiling recommendations and technical observations based on analyzed data.
• Support organization and archiving of assessment documentation and datasets.

Multimedia and Knowledge Documentation Support

• Support collection and organization of field photos, beneficiary information, and related documentation.
• Assist FAO communication and M&E teams in organizing visual documentation and supporting materials related to field activities.
Other Technical Support Activities
• Perform other relevant technical and analytical support tasks requested by FAO technical teams within the scope of the assignment.


CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

• A university degree in Sociology, Development Economics, Physics, Mathematics/Statistics, Agricultural Economics, or related field.
• At least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in rural development, research related work, livelihoods generation, conducting trainings, etc.
• Working knowledge of English (level C).
• National of Sierra Leone or resident of the country with valid work permit

• Work experience in developing data collection tools and conducting trainings of data collectors and carrying out needs assessment is essential,

• Relevance and extent of knowledge and experience in working with inter-governmental bodies and multi-disciplinary teams


Selection criteria

• In-depth knowledge and first-hand experience of Result Based Programming (RBM)
• Advanced university degree will be an added advantage
• Significant knowledge on CAPI data collection management and digital platforms such as KoBo collect, OKA,etc.
• Good experience in the use of statistical tools such as SPSS, STATA, R
• Significant experience conducting research and baseline assessment for FAO or any international organization is considered an added advantage.
• Knowledge of using statistical/analytical tools/packages on research will be an added advantage
