Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the Office of the Director of the UN Library and Archives Geneva. It provides an opportunity for exposure to knowledge management, communications, cultural diplomacy and outreach in an intergovernmental setting, and for developing further an understanding of the issues on the UN agenda and of the work of the international system in Geneva. The selected intern will be involved in a variety of tasks, which may include: - contributing to the development and implementation of the UN Library and Archives Geneva communications strategy, including assisting with preparation of drafts for social media, multimedia/podcast production and promoting engagement; - contributing to the work of the UN Cultural Activities Committee and the implementation of cultural activities at UN Geneva - assisting with planning and implementation of VIP visits to the UN Library and Archives Geneva, including background research, note-writing and follow-up; - assisting in the general management and administration of the Library and Archives; - other activities with the team depending on interest and opportunity.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Experience in drafting communications and social media posts is desirable. Experience in multimedia/podcast production is desirable. Interest in the work of the UN is required. Please indicate if you have a specific area of interest related to the work of the UN.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Fluency in other UN official language is desirable.
