Organizational and Country Office Context

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is a ministry of the Society of Jesus, incorporated as an international non-governmental organization with a mission to accompany, serve, and advocate for the rights of refugees and forcibly displaced people. The organization was founded in November 1980 and is now in over 56 countries. JRS undertakes services at national and regional levels with the support and guidance of an international office (IO) in Rome. The style of JRS service is human and spiritual, working in situations of greatest need, seeking the long-term well-being of refugees and displaced people while not neglecting their immediate or urgent needs.

The main services provided are education, reconciliation, livelihood activities, and psychosocial support. In Kenya, JRS has two projects: an urban refugee project in Nairobi focussing on Education and Livelihoods and a field project in Kakuma Refugee Camp focussing on Education, Integrated psychosocial inclusive Education programs in Centres, and Safe Shelters. 

Role Context

Reporting to the Inclusive Education Coordinator, the Physiotherapist will focus on improving functional participation, mobility, and inclusion of learners with physical and developmental disabilities by working collaboratively with teachers, school leadership, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to remove physical and participation barriers in learning environments.

JRS has zero tolerance towards all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse and takes seriously all concerns and complaints about sexual exploitation and abuse against children and vulnerable adults by JRS personnel.  JRS is committed to Safeguard children and vulnerable adults and has policies which outline the expected behaviour, code of conduct and responsibility of all persons acting on behalf of JRS (Staff, consultants, volunteers, interns, Pastoral team, and other representatives). All staff working for JRS are expected to abide by these policies and guideline.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

1. Deliver Measurable Clinical Progress for Children

o   Achieve documented progress toward individualized goals for 90%+ of caseload, improving motor skills, coordination, strength, and sensory integration as per treatment plans.

o   Produce comprehensive initial evaluations and treatment plans within 48 hours of assessment, utilizing standardized tools to establish clear baselines.

o   Design and implement engaging, play-based intervention sessions that result in increased child participation and achievement of therapeutic milestones.

2. Empower Families & Ensure Continuity of Care

o   Equip 100% of families with demonstrated home exercise programs and behavioral strategies, leading to reinforced progress outside clinical sessions.

o   Secure family feedback indicating increased confidence and understanding of their child’s needs and therapy goals.

o   Maintain meticulous, up-to-date records for every client, ensuring seamless knowledge transfer at discharge.

3. Drive Service Excellence & Interdisciplinary Collaboration

o   Spearhead the adoption and audit of profession-specific and multidisciplinary quality standards, contributing to a 10% annual improvement in service efficiency metrics.

o   Generate and present data-driven recommendations to JRS Management for service development, influencing the annual service planning process.

o   Champion collaborative practice by initiating and co-developing successful group programs or classroom interventions with OT, educational staff, and parents.

4. Advance Clinical Practice & Treatment Efficacy

o   Successfully manage a diverse caseload (including Cerebral Palsy, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, and neuromuscular disorders), tailoring interventions that yield measurable functional gains.

o   Integrate novel assessment methods and therapeutic techniques into practice, evidenced by updated protocols or shared best practices within the team

Person Specification – Essential Requirements

Qualification :

·       Bachelor's ’s Degree  in Physical Therapy, Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy or equivalent,

·       Minimum of 3+ years as a practicing Physical Therapist/Physiotherapist 

·       Certification by the Kenya Society of Physiotherapists

·       Excellent English written skills and good spoken English skills.

·       Hard working and team player with a willingness to learn

Salary Level and Benefit
